Default StarPort Ram Disk not showing in File Manger

HI All!

What have I missed.. I created a 400MB Ram Disk It ended up as the H: drive.. But when I reboot it is not showing up in the File manager Left window Pain

You can see it in the Computer Management -- Storage -- Disk managemant as Disk2 Healthy (active)

At the cmd prompt you can see it... H: {enter} it will show the info about the H:\ Drive...

Here is the kicker
If you type in H: in the address bar at the top of the File Manager then hit Go it will show you the drive info in the Right window pain... Nothing in the left window pain yet... Now double click on a folder that is in the right window pain and what appears now in the left window is the icon for the the H: drive NO VOL label (I even changed the VOL label to SPEEDY in the Computer Management) and the Folder that you opened...

I do NOT have any systems policies in place to hide and drives ..

The other kicker is when I changed drive letters to say P: in the computer manager then reboot it went back to H: with the Vol label of ROCKET_DISK and appeared in the file manager left pain...

Hum what happen...

Thanks Mac!

Windows XP Pro Corp SP1 with all SP1 updates

Hi,

1) I tried to reproduce the issue with not showing of a ram disk on system restart. But it works Ok for me... The ramdisk is visible in Windows Explorer.
Note it takes about 15-20 seconds after user's login to make a ram disk fully operable and the disk is hidden at the time...

2) StarPort knows nothing about drive letter mappings. This is up to the system to assign a drive letter to devices produced by StarPort.
So the system will always use the first free drive letter to map your ramdisk.
We have plans to add the drive letter assigning feature in one of the next StarPort releases...

I'm wondering if the system got confused somehow I play and move hard drives around sometimes there is two or three hard drives plugged in them back to one.. HUM not sure...

I was going to put the IE temp files on it but it spins up to late and IE put the temp folders back on the C:\ Drive,,, anyway...

So it is back to the drawing board I have been looking for a RAM drive that spins up and works so I can put the IE temp on it.. Makes dial-up faster...

The major bottleneck in windows is the pagefile , Hard drive cache , and the internet Explorer temp files... all use the hard drive... even having them on the same control but split up on different drives still leaves the bottleneck...

Thanks MaC!

Mac!

To sum up the problems you have with StarPort's ram disks:

1) It starts too late and this issue prevents IE from putting its temp files to the disk.
2) You need persistent drive letters to be assigned to your ram disks.

We've added the features into our wish list.

Thank you for the feedback.
