  • DVD-Burner advise

    Hi all there

I'm looking after some years for a new DVD-Burner (+-R/RW/DL and RAM).

Which one would you buy at the moment with the best support in reading out DPM...

    Wainting for good hints.

I love my LiteOn SHM-165H6S personally (there's also the 165P6S which is the same but without Lightscribe).

depends. I actually test a brandnew Plextor PX760SA, will report
later here how good this new drive is. One thing's for sure
already: it is far superiour then PX740/750, which both
dissapointed me alittle bit (Quality of burned DVD's, Read-
      capabilities).

As I usual have a real hugh batterie of different models here
from all important manufacturers, so far I would recommend
PX760A/SA - it is, however, not a cheap drive compared to
competitors and lacks "labelflash"-burn (if you need this
      at all, me<-not )

On the plus-side the drive is pretty fast, have alot of capabilities
(similar to that of Plextor Premium). On the down-
side it seems to me that this special-mmc's are only available
to Plextors own native software, Plextools. Seems they im-
plemented some kind of challenge/response-check to secure
the drive. I currently investigate this (in my free time) and
try to find a way around so that 3rd-party software can
use it again. And before someone asks: no - this is not illegal

There are some "unprotected" Plextor firmwares available to overcome this idiotic behavior Plextor introduced in newer drives (AFAIK unfortunately not RPC1 though, at least not yet).
Ppl who actually don't need 18x DVD writing may also take a look at the PX-755A/SA.
Both 755 and 760 also lack DVD-RAM support (yet, don't know if Plextor will add this later).

              Plextor Premium 2

I'm waiting until the Plextor Premium 2 is available to more markets (so I can start reading reviews on it and so I don't have to pay overseas shipping).

@Underheaven: the PX-760A/SA (and PX-755A/SA) seem to offer the same as
                the Plexwriter Premium 2

@Goenk: The review is around here @Sunday, so far this
                drive is really amazing

Its only one word which is different but it changes the whole meaning of the sentence.

Seems they even don't want their bad 716s back.
Congrats to your new good Plextor writer.
