Hi!

I need to use, on a daily basis, one Folio Infobase which uses Safedisc 2.9 copy protection and so far I have
tried many Win emulators under Linux:Wine, Cross Over, vmware
win4lin and today I turned to daemon-tools as my last resort

I managed to create 1-1 copy with Alcohol 120 and when I mount image with
daemon-tools (under native Win98) it is possible to execute Install.exe and
install application (although I couldn't run Install.exe from CD-RW burnt with
Alcohol-created image).

However, when I try to run Install.exe mounted with daemon-tools under Win4lin,
Safedisc's splash screen appears and then the application crashes.

Anyone has any luck with executing Safedisc's 2.x protected applications under
win4lin and/or any hint how to proceed.

I hate to keep native Win98 just for one application :x

Sincerely,
Gour

I've been told that safedisc games will run fine under vmware or virtual pc. I have installed dtools under virtual pc (win98 and win2k) but I've not tried to run any games.

Well, yesterday I emerged vmware on my Gentoo box and got a trial
licence, but so far - no luck :(

Similarly, like when trying to run under Wine:

Unload the debugger and try again

Gour

ps. If I could solve this issue, I'd immediatelly register my daemon-tools :D

I got reply on vmware forum: the trick is to disable acceleration while
installing and now everything works (at least under vmware) :D

Don't worry. I'll keep my word, but I'm just waiting for an auspicious moment .. and today is the day :D

I have a game that uses SafeDisc 2.9 running using a mounted image. In order to create the image (which took me a few tries) I ended up having to check:
Skip Read Errors
Fast Skip Error Blocks
Advanced Sector Scanning (Factor: 100)
Read Sub-Channel Data

The first Try I just selected SafeDisc 2.x from the database menu, and that didn't work, I then tried various combinations until I finally just decided to try em all with the exception of RMPS, which I think is exclusive to Securom currently.

I haven't yet tried burning the image back to a CD-R or what have you, as my 3 year old son like to play with CD's, and having none around for him to play with is better for me.

After I managed to run required apps under vmware, I was in contact
with Netraverse support stuff, and I got a hint that latest version of win4lin has some new code that can help and .. voila!

Now it works - with the image burned with Alcohol 120%.

Gour

ps. And yes - I registered my copy :D
