hello, i'm a new user to this program and computing in general but i have a friend who recommended this program but does it work only with cd's or can u use the program to run a file?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by running a file?
Daemon Tools can be used by two ways:
1. Emulation, i.e. you use some written media (cd/dvd),
2. virtual drive, i.e. you mount an image file (no emulation required).
