What copy protection does the Orange Box use?

I'm planning to buy one soon & I want to be prepared when I back-it-up.

    Thanks

It doesn't use one. You have to register the games on steam.

Oh OK like online activation of Windows...

Does that mean I don't have to insert the disc over & over again?

I have Blue Shift and it always requests for a CD when I play it.
But I made an image that works perfectly fine.

It also has Opposing Force with it this one never asked for a CD.
Only a 1 time entry of the serial no.

By the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask info how to beat Tages...

      Here's the details:

I recently bought a game - Act of War High Treason (Stand Alone Version).
I made an image using Daemon Tools Pro set the plugin to TAGES - image was created but it did not work...

It took more than 2hrs and the file created was an MDS file like the one made by Alcohol.

Tages still gives out the message that the original DVD is not present.

Do you think I should burn a back-up copy into another DVD and use it instead of the image in my HDD?
Should I use the image created as the source?
If so what burning software do I use?

      I've got Nero 7 Essentials & Ulead Burn.Now

My imaging softwares are Farstone Gamedrive 10, Alcohol 52% Free Edition and Daemon Tools Pro.

Here's a complete list of all necessary info.

DVD Writer = LG GSA-H55L with Super-multi, Lightscribe, & Securdisc capability...
Image made = MDS file (DPM set to high/maximum)
Virtual drive used = Daemon Tools Virtual drive
      Plugin profile = TAGES

Also reinstalled the game using the image made by Daemon Tools.

      Did I forget to mention?
      My game is in DVD...

Want a pic of the DVD game for reference?

I can send it by email of you want.

      Please help...

Normally you don't need to insert dvd for orange box.

I hope you used latest DT Pro (4.11.0219) for imaging.

        You don't have to burn.

You could try another drive to get a proper Tages image.

Don't hijack this thread for another game.

          @Su-27FlankerB
Steam is the online digital content distribution system created by Valve. When you activate your products on Steam (as all Source-based games require), then you no longer need the original disc to play. You can also activate your Blue Shift and Opposing Force discs in Steam and they will no longer require the disc, either.

Did Bioshock forced you to play with the DVD even if you added it to your steam games?

If you're asking me, I bought Bioshock through Steam so I don't know how the disc-based copy works. I'm not sure if you can activate the retail version through Steam or not. Some games can be, some can't, depending on what the publisher decided to do.
