  • Re-Installing Daemon after Windows upgrade

I just upgraded my windows, however i forgot to disable a mounted drive. Now when I try to reinstall daemon tools the SPTD driver doesn't seem to install right because after installing and rebooting my system the daemon installer doesn't think sptd driver is installed.

    Please Help,
    Thanks!

    1. Boot in safe mode and press ESC key when you see on bottom line of display:
"Press ESC to cancel loading SPTD.sys". This will abort loading of SPTD layer.

    2. Open registry editor (run regedit) and browse to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd
Change the value "Start" (DWORD) to 4 (i.e. disabled).
[To re-enable SPTD service change the "Start" value back to 0.]

Check if r0 key exists in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd.
Delete r0, reboot, then try again.

As last resort un-install all software using SPTD layer (e.g. Daemon Tools, Alcohol), open registry editor, browse to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\sptd
and set Start value to 4 (i.e. disabled), and reboot.
After reboot delete complete sptd key in services hive - you must enable all permissions on sptd/cfg key first.
Then reboot, and re-install, beginning with SPTD layer. After reboot check correct SPTD layer installation (see above) before re-installation of Daemon Tools!

    3. Reboot again in normal mode and check if your issue is solved.
Make something idiot proof, but then they just make a better idiot
