  • USB HDD gone/need to format please help

    Hi,

Today I installed DT on someone's computer in order to mount an ISO.

When we restarted his comp DT was installed but his USB HDD was gone,it just didn't show up anymore as before as H:,it was just gone in My Computer.

I went to the diskmanager and reassigned that drive to H:
but now when I click on it in My Computer it says that I need to format it.

I can't do that because this guy's whole life is on that drive including pictures from all his holidays,so I need to get it to work again with all the data stored on it otherwise he'll kill me

    Please help...

Which OS and Service Pack does your friend use ?
Was that USB-HDD only in use with that 1 PC, or was it at that
time possibly also in use on other PCs (with WinXP Sp1) ?
    Which Daemon Tools version ?

Have you tried to uninstall Daemon Tools and SPTD access layer (run SPTD Installer -> Uninstall) ?
Have you tested whether the USB HDD can be accessed normally on another PC ? If not, yet: don't test on WinXP SP1
I'm not employed by Disc Soft and my views do not necessarily reflect the ones of the company.

      Hi thx for your help.

He has a Win XP Pro version with SP2.
The DT version is the latest one 4300-lite.
And it was only in use with that 1 computer, however we tried to connect it to another one but I get the same message to format the HDD.

Would it help to connect it to a clean fresh install of Win XP?

I also own a computer with Linux OS so maybe it's possible to get the files back in Linux and then burn them on some dvd's?

      Thx in advance.

This is really strange, as DT is not related to any partitions on your HDD and never tries to change them.
