I don't know if this is the right place to post this kind of inquiry but I was comparing the prices of external enclosures and a new external DVD writer... It seems that it would be better to just get a new writer! What do you think about this model?

Never heard of that model, but i can recommend a LG GGW-H20L.

If you don't want BluRay, i can recommend a LG GH20NS10-

That model appears to be an internal but I am looking for a good external for a reasonable price... that way it will be easier when it comes to having to unhook it! Any suggestions?

I can't seem to find that model at Newegg, is there any other model that they carry that you would recommend... internal or external... and if it is an internal, could you please suggest an external enclosure? I would really appreciate it!

Sorry for the late answer, somehow i haven't seen your reply.

You only need a normal Sata to USB adapter - vendor doesn't matter.

What particular brand of writer would you recommend as the best?

I prefer LG - never had a problem with these drives.

Do you know what the newest model number is for the LG GH20NS10... I can't seem to find it anywhere for purchase!

Amazon.com: 20X Sata Bulk Black: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/LG-GH20NS10-Sata-Bulk-Black/dp/B0012IX7WW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228067489&sr=8-1)

I am working with a $50 budget... any suggestions on what route I should take?

It depends on where you live.

Here is another offer from Amazon UK:
Amazon.co.uk: LG GH20NS10 AUAR10B 20x DVDRW SATA Black Retail Kit: Electronics & Photo (http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-GH20NS10-AUAR10B-DVDRW-Retail/dp/B0010YK456/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228067854&sr=8-1)

I have an account at Newegg... is there anything there you would recommend? I really do appreciate all your help with this!

Just checked out amazon.com and it would be more than 50 $ with adapter.

You could try the model you linked in 1st post here and when it doesn't suit the needs of DPM etc., send it back. If i remember you have 14 days to send it back.

Will the LG GH20NS10, the model you recommended, do everything I need in regards to DPM and copy protections?

Blazkowicz
30.11.2008, 18:29
Yes, i can read every protection i want and it is working then.

Newegg.com - LG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner w/ SecurDisc Tech - CD / DVD Burners (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136149)

It is the successor of the drive i recommended, so it should be at least so good as GH20NS10.

Thanks for that!

One more question... any external enclosures you would recommend?

Blazkowicz
30.11.2008, 18:47
External enclosures are normally the same. Also for usb sata adapters.

EDIT: I have a USB2.0 to IDE+SATA adapter by MCE and working perfectly here.

What size enclosure do I need?

Blazkowicz
30.11.2008, 19:35
You need 5.25" as the drive is 5.25".
