  • File Type?

Hi guys, testing out Daemon Tools Pro, most definitely going to buy this its been awesome so far but I have a question about the file types.

I get that .mdx is basically .mdf/.mds in one file wrapper so no questions there, my issue is the difference between the last two and .iso. I've always backed up with .iso format but I was wondering if I could gain any advantages by using .mdx or .mds/.mdf. As far as my usage goes, I do it because I hate the slow death that is program installs from a CD/DVD so I rip all of my programs/games/etc to iso's and use them with Daemon-Tools to install, much faster. For my usage would I gain any advantage? Maybe for the mass amount of games in particular (copy protection??)? What's the overall difference?

I appreciate any help I can get on this!

ISO doesn't contain protection related data and mds/mdf/mdx does. Also it can be password protected, be compressed and splitted.

Use 'Split file' option on Properties tab of 'Disc imaging' dialog.

So, "split file" is just available with the pro version(s)?

mdx file cannot be split by design.
If you need split files use mds/mdf.
In other aspects they are similar.
