Is SPTD required by Daemon Tools Lite?

Daemon Tools Lite installer gives me an option to install SPTD.
I want to have a minimalistic installation.
Do I have to have SPTD installed on my system in order to use Daemon Tools Lite? Or can I leave it out?
I only need to mount (and maybe create) iso images.
Which features would I lose by not installing SPTD?

You don't need SPTD unless you want to run protected images (e. g. SecuROM).
