Use the windows API function GetVolumeInformation()
You'll get all you need i think

Yes i thought so but I cant see how this tells me whether a drive is a daemon mounted one or a real one.

No i want my vb application to be able to tell which cdroms are real hardware devices and which are virtual drives.

So, for example where can I find

          1. the number of drives mounted by daemon, i.e. 0,1.2.3.4

          2. Of these, which have iso images mounted

          all from vb code.

one might expect there to be rigsotry settings giving this information.but htere don't deem to be.

I think it is a major job of DT to hide this little different between real and virtual hardware. Otherwise future blacklists were to easy...

We're working on even better "hiding" to prevent future blacklists, so don't bother
