  • "Disc Read Error" vs "Data Examination Error"

When reading CDs with bad sectors, my CD-RW drive reports "disc read error", while my DVD recorder says "Read data examination error".

In the first case, skipping read errors takes veeeery long (many hours, maybe). With "fast skipping" enabled, it takes about 5 minutes.

Now, with my DVD drive, without "fast skip", it takes 5 minutes, while with this option enabled, it's a matter of seconds.

So, what's the difference between these two drives? Which device should I prefer to create 1:1 images of Safedisc CDs (and similar protections).

(For reference, the DVD drive is a NEC ND-3520, and the CD-RW is a Sony CRX225.)
To contact me privately, pray. I might answer.
