I have been trying to run X3 in the past few days and only have succeeded twice.
I think one of the causes might be that somehow a virtual drive got "stuck" from a previous DT3 installation.
I had mounted a SimGolf image and later uninstalled DT3 when I no longer needed it. The SimGolf image remained mounted. I didn't think too much of it as it didn't harm anything I needed to do.
However, since I've tried all recommended button combinations in SFNightmare, SFCure and DT4, I think the virtual drive might be causing trouble here.
How can I remove the stuck virtual drive? And could this be causing the StarForce check to reboot the box when I try to run X3 patched to 1.2.1?
