  • Virtual IDE controller driver

I've red that writting your own ide controller driver is the hard part. But aren't those driver's already written for applications that allow virtual operating systems like WMware.

I have WMware installed and under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers is listed:
Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
    Primary IDE Channel

allthough I really have nVidia nForce4 ADMA/Parallel ATA.

Is this already a virtual IDE driver and could it be used for DT?

    Re: VMWare

I think that they (VMWare, Inc.) emulate an IDE controller better than DAEMON Tools ever will.

But, I don't really know much about the programming stuff inside virtual machines (fe. is their virtual IDE controller written in assembly language, plug and play compatible, does it always need the same IRQ, etc).

Because VMWare is a hardware emulator...
DT uses a virtual CD-ROM drive...beacuse windows allows the creation of virtal drives using your own device driver...

VMWare will drastically reduce performance...It runs Windows XP for example..in another window on your desktop..It has total control of what the emulated XP can see. Hence presuming games will work in VM ware..it should screw starforce..
