  • dtscsi.sys problems when doing windows upgrade install

I have been trying to do an "Upgrade" (rather, reinstall) of Windows XP Professional. I have Daemon tools 4.0 installed.

    I follow the following process:

    1) Put in the windows CD and select upgrade install
    2) Enter CD key and other information
    3) Setup begins copying setup files
    4) Near the very end of the copy operation, an error dialog appears saying: "dtscsi.sys cannot be copied because it is being used by another process"

I have tried this in safemode with no different results. I am not sure if this is Daemon Tools' fault or not, but I figured this would be a good place to find out.

    Thanks!

    Close the Daemon-Tools tray-icon.

      ...

      Uninstall DAEMON Tools 4.xx.
      Use "sptdinst_x86.exe remove" and reboot.
      Then perform the upgrade install.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol, too) should always be un-installed during any kind of OS upgrade!
