  • Step by step guide to Daemon Tools

    Hi there !
Can anybody please, please help me with a "Walkthrough" on
how to use DT ? I am trying to copy Max Payne with Clone CD
and I've come so far as burning the image to my harddrive .
    then what ? I know it's safedisc 2.51.020 and I have downloaded
Daemon tools to my computer. What do I do now ? I don't understand
the help provided in DT Manual. It does NOT tell me :
    1. What the virtual drivers are for.
    2. If, after I have burned the game to CD-R, I can play it on a computer
that doesn't have DT installed. But most important of all :
    3. It does not show me (step by step) what to do ? It explains to me
what the different settings do. But since I am i complete novice,
I really don't know where to start. Please help from were you input
a recordable CD in your DVD/CD Burner and you have your image
burned from the original somewhere in the Temp file...

    SAD BUT TRUE !

OK, i'll try to give you a quick tutorial

First, you need some kind of program that will make an image from a cd. Such programs are clonecd, disc juggler, blind read, and alcohol 120. You should use safedisc2 setting/skip bad errors settings for reading.

Once you have an image, this is where daemon tools is used. You can mount this image to a virtual cdrom. THen you play the game as if a real cd was being used, only an image is used.

You might be able to play your game without emulation (daemon tools, alcohol 120, etc...). BUt this depens on your burner. You should try different burning settings until one work for you (you should get some cdrw's to save some money )

      Hi Andareed,
So I mount the IMAGE onto my virtual CD Rom (Checked !)
But do I burn a copy to a CD-R (or CDRW  ) from
there ? I want to get a copy of the game onto a cd r that
I can play on any PC . Just like the original. I do not want
to have alot of cloning and extra gaming tools onto my
laptop. I am bringing a laptop along when I go on vacation
...which is soon :P I just want to bring a copy of MAX PAYNE
along and leave the original at home... is this possible at all ?
When you write "Then u play the game" is that with NO CD at
all in any of the drivers or with a copy of the game burned on
a CD-R. Bear with me I will learn this eventually !!! hahahaah

If you help me i am forever in your debt !

      Spacelord
ps My image was created with CloneCD and that should work ds.

        If you make an image (a 700 mb file);
        INSERT INTO `portal_posts_text` VALUES
and save it on your pc, you won't need a cd to play. You should be able to make a copy of your cd with alcohol 120 or clonecd.

          copying Max Payne

          Hi Guys,

I actually managed to make a 1:1 copy with fastdump
through DAEMON (thanks mr admin for that) But now I
have one final and maybe a bit of an embarassing question
          :
If i burn this image to a CDR and take it with
me on holiday. What tools (with exclusion of the max
payne 1,05 Patch) shall the computer have that will
play this game ? (Bear in mind it's my own laptop so there
is no "funny stuff" going on here) Shall I "burn the image
from the CDR ont my harddrive and then I am "Home
free" or do I need Daemon tools + something else on
"That pc too" ? Since I am far from a computer wiz
I need info on this too !

          Please help
          Spacelord
ps Awesom tool, DAEMON, By the way ! Thanks for keeping
          it a FREEWARE ds

You will need daemon tools to mount the image to a virtual cdrom. If you burn to a cdr, you will need to have daemon tools if you play from your cdrw drive. If you just play from simple cdrom/dvdrom you shouldn't need anthing. Of course, you should test this before going on your holiday

At worst, you will need to have daemon tools installed AND safedisc emulation enabled.

Sorry but it doesn't work. I uninstall the original installment
and thry to run a new one from my copied CDR. I get the
              message :

              Component : Levels
              File Group : Levels
              File : D:\disc1\Levels\X-Level\2.ras
Error : File Error (CRC Error, Cyclical redundancy Check)

              Why is this ?
When you say that if I "play it from a normal CD ROM"
don't you mean as well that I need to INSTALL it from my
copied CDR and onto the Laptop ?
Is the Image still " NO GOOD " or am I doing something
              else wrong :?
ps. when the game is uninstalled (apart from the Image
that is saved to my harddrive) I can't mount the Image from
a virtual drive through Daemon tools. It gives me the same
              error message ds.

                  copy Max Payne

 LORD AND BEHOLD FRIENDS ! IT WORKS. I RECCON
I OWE TO YOU GUYS TO TELL YOU WHAT I DID SO MY
                  MISSTAKES WONT BE MADE AGAIN.
MY PROBLEM WAS 2 FOLD : 1. REALLY BAD CD-R COPYS.
DO NOT (RPT N O T) TRY TO COPY ONTO THE CHEAP ONES.
IT WILL SAVE YOU ALOT OF HASSLE. (I GOT INFINITI 900 MG
IN THE END) 2. BURN S L O W. IN ONE MANUAL I READ THEY
SAID BURN AT MAX SPEED BUT I THINK THAT ONE IS OUT OF
DATE. I WENT 1 X SPEED ON BOTH IMAGE CREATION AND
COPY TO CD-R (HEY ! IM NOT COMPLAINING)
For those out there that want to make a safety copy of
MAX PAYNE : (I used CloneCD and DAEMON Tools)
                  1. Open DAEMON TOLLS and check "safe disc" Mode
                  2. Open CloneCD Tray and check "Hide CDR Media"
                  3. Open CloneCD and "Read to Image File" (get the settings
according to what Protection the game has) and BURN
                  SLOW (1x worked for me)
                  4. "Write from Image file" (still 1x speed) onto a good CD-R
(ie. not the cheap shit) I used INFINITI 900mb Pro.

That's it folks ! thanks for all the help these past 2 days.

You should not use 900mb cd-rs, these are low quality media by definition!
Use 700mb/80min for games like Max Payne - theyґll fit without any problems.
Everybody be cool! You, be cool!
They'll keep fighting! And they'll win!
