After some logging i'm pretty sure a working maxi image can't be created for BF 2142. It uses a custom ISO check, not the standard method of only 5 checked sectors

Is ist possible to make a mini image for a starforce game?

The game ist Colin MCRae 2005 and it does not work from my image. The orginal is a german version of the best price 10€ series.

Here's a weird scenario...

I was using Vista until last night and I never encountered any problems running my 2142 image... (created with Alcohol 120%). I didn't need to disable my physical drive in any way whatsoever...

I decided to go back to XP for some compatibility issues I was having, and now the only way I can get my image to load is by not only disabling my physical drive in Device Manager, but a reboot is required before it will work as well.

The -only- change to my system is the OS. I'm using the same image, same Daemon Tools, etc.

This is somewhat of an inconvienance, and if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate any help finding a solution where disabling the drive isn't necessary.

P.S. Using software to hide the physical drive does not work... already tried.

figured out;
actually just confirming that someone else wrote before;
the ones who cannot make their maxi image work with d-tools or any other virtual drive
should disable the physical drive from device manager but ALSO from the BIOS

i think this is because of the chipset differences, mine is a k9n (nvidia board of msi)

It's just that SD 4.7 takes a closer look whether opt. IDE drives are present. When deactivating opt. IDE drives in device manager there shouldn't be a problem with a mounted image.

After reading about 50+ threads regarding this issue this is the one that made most sense and tried it. vola! BF2142 Launched post disabling IDE's in Device Manager. Used alcohol and DT4. newbe & first time emulator here. If i can do it, anyone can; lol! good luck.

You can't, your settings are ok now. You just don't see the other lines that often in my log cause for "better" illustration i've deleted them, too.
In your last log you've captured beginning of SD Sig check (00 01 c0 -> 448). It will end at about sector 927 (00 03 9f). Try again until you get that region + the following "far beyond" 5 checks.

I am using version 5.0 of Bus Hound and I 've cut my log until first data is read; to get only needed commands you can make your log look like mine by unchecking IN and ok phases in Bushound settings.
Only the READ commands starting with hex value 28 are important - 28 00 00 se ct or 00 00
So these are the sectors read in your log:

The ascending series of sectors -the major part of the check- is the so called SafeDisc Signature which also contains the weak sectors. This signature and everything before has to stay in your "maxi image" to pass check (not really everything, but not worth mentioning). So in this example the first gap to be filled with zeros starts at sector 1360. The last five sectors are the already mentioned ISO/content-check which also have to stay -> first gap ends before first ISO-check begins. So you "only" have to catch the part containing the big leap from Signature-, to ISO-check incl. all five sectors. There is no similar leap in the check, so nothing to mix up Now convert the hexadecimal (bold) sector data to decimal values e.g. with Windows Calculator

I'm using BW5Tweaker to define the gaps. Just look at this (since v7.27/7.28 no more working) Securom Maxi-Image guide. Of course you can also use a Hexeditor which lets you define blocks (Sector * 2048) and fill them with zeros.

P.S.: I don't have BF2142, does the DVD have to stay in the drive after game start ?

Following my link(s) you would have found this thread, where you can read that Bushound trial is capable of only logging 32 commands, so it's recommended to only log neccessary data as described here ... and to start the log in the right moment
