Daemon hang when try mount image

When I try to mount an image no dialog pops up and the daemon icon in the toolbar doesn't respond anymore. I have disabled all drives but then still 4 virutally drives were visible. I uninstalled daemon but there were still 4 virtual drives were visible. I looked for some driver deletion posts and found 1. I deleted the shtp.sys (don't remember exact name) file in the system32/drivers folder. After the file was deleted the 4 virtual drives dissappeared. I reinstalled daemon and the shtp.sys file but now I still have the same problem as before: when I try to mount an image, daemon just does nothing and the icon stops responding.
Windows XP, not great specs, no burning program.
