My first question is: would this enable easier b-listing?

Blacklisting. What the copy protection companies do to prevent images working from the virtual drives.

          thanks for the info

I think this feature should have no influence on blacklisting

Correct me if im wrong, but the daemon tools icon is currently red by default, and green when you have emulation options enabled. So... therefore you would then need:

Light Red: Unmounted + No Emulation
Dark Red: Mounted + No Emulation
            Light Green: Unmounted + Emulation
            Dark Green: Mounted + Emulation

And thats only with 2 variables, what happens when Pro comes out and we decide we want another to show whether you have disabled ide drives for starforce protection or not. Then you would have 8 different colours (or shades of) to show this.

Seems to me this will just get too complicated to remember what ever colour actually stands for. How about:

When you hold your mouse over the icon it has a tool tip that shows the status of your drives. For example

            Daemon Tools xxxx
            Drive [x]: Mounted
            Drive [y]: Unmounted
            Drive [z]: Unmounted
            Emulation: off
            IDE: enabled

That would be much better in my opinion.

              My 2 cents...

I'd say, simply use icon and colors as they are now, but add a little overlay-cd in the upper (or lower) left (or right) corner if an image is mounted. I mean, like shortcuts (.lnk-files), where there is a little arrow on top of the original icon. With this option there is also room for more overlays in the other three corners, if anything is important enough to show it there

something for a little notification would be cool, there are always times where you go through the steps to mount a file and have it turn out to already be mounted
