  • No driver found for virtual drive

Using DT Lite 4.12.1 on Win XP sp2 (the same problem also happens with DT 3.47),
with admin rights (also tried with 'Run as' administrator).

Note : no internet access on this computer.

    1. DT installation
After reboot, windows detects a new device and says 'access denied'.
    DT installer does not complain.

    2. Adding virtual drives
For each drive added, windows detects a new device and says 'no driver found'.
In the device manager, the virtual drives have an exclamation mark (!) and in the information box it says 'no driver found'.

Note that DT virtual mounted disks work despite this annoying error message.
How can I get rid of this message each time a vitual drive is added ?

    (sorry for my bad english)

Try manually updating the driver and point it towards C:\Windows\inf\cdrom.inf

web search for: access denied add new hardware

I would search the web: access denied add new hardware

        I found this quote
For some reason it worked when I went through the "add new hardware" wizard rather than just trying to update the driver from device manager.
The process looks exactly the same but I just got a warning (what my driver signing setting is configured to be) instead of access denied. Driver installled OK.
p.s. you need to be a windows administrator and you should tell us if you are on a company network or domain and if you have anti-virus software disable that 'just in case'

p.p.s. the driver signing setting can be configured via group policy and also the local security policy MMC snap-in, it can be configured in other ways too maybe there is a message in the event log that indicates something more.

Thanks, I will try the "add new hardware" wizard. Does it also work for virtual devices ?
Note : I tried to install daemon tools in safe mode as administrator, same problem !
The PC is an ACER Veriton 2800, no internet connection, no LAN, no antivirus.

The add new hardware wizard will work for virtual devices. In fact in device manager you will hardly be able to tell the drive is not real.

If you want to ask me I think you are missing some important registry keys or files on your PC. Maybe you can upload your %systemroot%\setupapi.log to some webhost And of course it wouldn't hurt to use regmon and filemon and procmon but this could be a long debuginng process when the problem really lies in the windows configuration.

              Using hardware wizard also fails.
              From setupapi.log :
#E057 Registering coinstallers failed. Error 5: Access is denied.
And yet it seems not to be a security issue, as it also fails in safe-mode logged as administrator (same error).

I don't know what a working DT registry entry looks like ?

                what drivers

The only thing I could guess at in the log was:
                Code:
                "UpperFilters"=hex(7):72,00,65,00,64,00,62,00,6f,0 0,6f,00,6b,00,00,00,00,00
                "LowerFilters"=hex(7):69,00,6d,00,61,00,70,00,69,0 0,00,00,00,00
So we know there are some drivers that you could remove (upper and lower) perhaps.

Can you show what drivers are operating on your REAL cdrom drives?

And tell us what's written there.
I'm kind of out of ideas besides searching for rogue drivers via a hijack this log. And of course the web and forum search for: access denied add new hardware. It could be missing registry keys or registry keys with bad data. And of course there is the thought that it kind of works anyway right now too, hehe.

As a last idea: Also DAEMON Tools doesn't use need or talk to the APSI layer BUT this is a pretty common software (APSI) i'd see if it will install and maybe it would give better error messages: APSI 4.7 for windows xp.

When you're done with the APSI program you can uninstall it or keep it, it won't matter. Run the APSICHK program after installation if it succeds and see if you get an all green success screen. The APSICHK program should be in the folder in program files (probably not linked in the start menu).

Filters on real DVDROM drive :
                  Device Upper Filters :
                  redbook
                  Device Lower Filters :
                  imapi
                  Class Upper Filters :
                  < none >
                  Class Lower Filters :
                  < none >
                  redbook.sys and imapi.sys are present in system32\drivers

                    Cannot Install this Hardware

Just re-installed DAEMON-Tools after having some problems with Windows XP SP2 but everytime I reboot my system I get this:

Anyone know why and how I can fix it?

I'm a long time user of DTools and never had a problem like this.

                    Thanks!

Yes, I'm the only user on this computer and my account has administrator privileges.

Is DAEMON Tools still able to add 1 or more virtual drives without an error message from DAEMON Tools?

As I mentioned above I would do an internet search for: access denied add new hardware

Nope, I keep getting the error message that access is denied.

                              Open up this folder:

                              C:\Windows\Driver cache\i386

Rename the driver.cab file to driver.old.

Insert you XP/Vista CD/DVD. Click on "Perform Additional Tasks". Click "Browse this CD" and then double-click the i386 folder. Find the driver.cab file, right-click and Copy.

Paste it in the C:\Windows\Driver cache\i386 folder.

Open Device Manager, right-click and remove the virtual drive. Reboot the computer. Direct it to the location of the driver when it asks, or if it doesn't reinstall the driver.

If that doesn't work, start/run and type "sfc /scannow"

Also ensure you have the following rights for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
Everyone and System Full Access - same for Services

and bequest these permissions to subkeys.

                              If that all doesn't work, download regmon, let it sniffing and then try to update the key. It's possible something like "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\{
36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}" is showing up - check that permissions then and set Everyone and System Full Access.
