  • YASU(v1.6.9040)_isn't properly detecting VirtualDrives when Phy.CD/DvD's are disabled

When I Recently upgraded Daemon Tools to (v4.30.4) I had also looked to see if there was a new version of YASU that would take care of our image mounting issue with Far Cry 2, but we keep our only physical CD/DvD drive disabled by default because it interferes with some of the other games anyway. Because {D:\} was assigned to the 1st virtual Drive in most cases. (the use of the 'D' drive letter by a virtual drive might be irrelevant next to the following fact) Its more likely because no Physical Drives are available\Enabled YASU is assuming that the 1st drive is automatically a Physical drive.

So with part of that in mind, I redid the Drive Labels re-assigning {D:\} from Daemon Tools as a Virtual Drive back
to our Physical Optical DVD-Drive and setting Daemon Tools to one Virtual Drive taking the Drive Letter {F:\}. By Default we keep our Physical DVD-Drive Disabled.

As the below log shows with the physical drive {D:\} disabled YASU does not properly detect Daemon Tools's {F:\} drive as a virtual drive as it should, and does not properly cloak it. This should be looked into, YASU should not be assuming if it only sees one optical drive that that drive is a physical drive, also before I resigned {D:\} back to the physical drive and when I had more then one virtual enabled, YASU assumed the virtual drive that had the D:\ drive letter was a physical drive and ignored it.
    Code:

Also when I attempted to de-cloaked and re-cloaked it, YASU refused to cloak it all... Whats with that?
    (note: no Physical drive enabled).

Well its great to finally to be here on the Daemon Tools Forums. I love Forums because it grants all of us the time and place to chat with actual Developers and all sorts of people from around the world, to talk and discuss ways to improve software and fix many of the bugs that software unfortunately tend to have (no worries, lets just do our best ). I look forward to my time here, well spent. ^^

hmm, you rebooted after changing the drive letters?

because, if you didn't, it might be an idea to do so, because the registry information may not have been updated, and yasu works from some of that...

just an idea though, i might be wrong (i am human after all), and im sure syk0 will check this post and reply to it as soon as he's aware
my views are 100% personal views..

I did reboot after Installing Daemon Tools (v4.30.4) for a second time, before which CoD4 Image mounted but failed Auth, after which it worked fine...

I just tested one of our PCs, it had the Physical Drive {D:\} Enabled and the Virtual Drive as {F:\}... I got this log.

and here's after a restart w/ physical drive {D:\} disabled.
I repeated the last steps and got a duplicate of the above log.

The same is happening to me with ARMA 2 mini-ISO.

          Very weird !

I tried to re-instal DAEMON LITE, to upgrade to DAEMON PRO, but the same continues.

Maybe it is an YASU bug ?

            That's what I've been saying.
            Daemon Tools isn't the problem.

I'm still waiting on a reply from syk0, YASU's Developer.

I found a solution i'm on windows 7 RTM x64, right click daemon on taskbar>virtual cd/dvd>Device 0(aka virtual drive Duh :P) > Set Device Parameters> change the auto generated name to a custom name. After this it will apply your settings then use yasu and voila it now cloaks the virtual drive and ignores whatever physical drives you have . Hope this helps all of you.

Interesting... This might help as a temporary measure...

It is an old well known trick and it is not working everytime
Make something idiot proof, but then they just make a better idiot

There has got to be a way to redo the coding, so Daemon Tools can more accurately tell the Difference between Physical Drives and its own Virtual Drives... or is that not the problem? O_o
