    Does anyone happen to know what type of protection it uses? It's a rather old game and neither ProtectionID nor that A-Ray program seem to be able to figure it out.

    I've tried ripping it with the securom *NEW and securom v5 options in alcohol 120% (DPM at 24x).

    Just incase alcohol was blacklisted I've also tried uninstalling alcohol.

    The game runs with the CD in the drive, with or without alcohol installed.

    If no one knows offhand would someone mind telling me how I might go about figuring out what type of protection it uses?

          Ah, yes, I've tried both of those, neither one could figure out which protection it was using(but I must've missed it in the millions of "non exe" messages before)
          . This is what protection-id gives:
          Init cd/dvd sector scan for Drive H
          -> Protection -> Tages
          [!] File appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection
          - Scan Took : 0.922 Seconds

          When I scan the files it gives this for the exe files:
          Scanning -> H:\Setup.exe
          File Type : Exe, Size : 165888 (028800h) Bytes
          [!] File appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection
          - Scan Took : 0.890 Seconds

          and this:

          Scanning -> H:\Giants\gs_ds.dll
          File Type : Dll, Size : 127033 (01F039h) Bytes
          -> File has 57 (039h) bytes of appended data starting at offset 01F000h
          [!] File appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection
          - Scan Took : 0.813 Seconds

          And this one which was hidden in a million "is not exe" errors
          Scanning -> H:\Giants\Giants.ex1
          File Type : Exe, Size : 1634304 (018F000h) Bytes
          [!] Possible CD/DVD-Check String -> cdcheck
          - Scan Took : 0.609 Seconds

          So I seem to have answered my own question...any idea how to get dtools to work with a cdcheck? (w/out burning a cd)

            *sigh* :wink: then just try ripping it with first 'safedisc' then 'laserlock' then probably old 'securom' - the game's so old, one of those should work
            ps. sorry 'bout posting the links, overread you already used 'em 8)

              The Australian release is not protected at all.

              Cheers
