    So will it be?

I`m curious, will v4 be on that month?
In this thread developers, testers or anyone that can know it seems don`t want to post their answers, say only yes or no...
It`s a question only to developers. Please post your answer.

About x64, at least make a 32bit version, we can use XP 32bit before you make 64 bit version of your software...

actually, the anxiousness is due to the lack of updates on the progress of version 4. there were updates till september i think and then non of them has posted anything. and still it seems that no one has any clue except that the month of October ends on 31st. So we keep our fingers crossed till then .

Heh, October 31st, the question is, is it going to be a trick or a treat?

only the developer knows when something is ready so Ill just sit here with my fingers crossed and wait...

Hmm...I wonder why they (developers mainly I think) haven't replied to this thread yet...it's pretty easy to say no..a tad harder to promise yes. But maybe they really don't know yet? Waiting a day or two might give them the info they need to say for sure. Or..they're intentionally keeping us in excitement.

Well, anything from them would be good. :?

I'm not a developer. But I can tell you why they're not replying to this thread.

We've answered these questions - "when will DT v4 be released...?" - so many times it's annoying to read them over and over again. We can't tell either because we don't know what bugs are still left to be uncovered before we release it. We're trying to fix as many of them as possible because we don't want to release a half-baked version that screws half the users' systems.

We said that it'll be released in October. IF no serious problems arise that cannot be fixed in time. So please keep your anxiety down, the developers' main job is to get v4 done, not to answer those questions again and again every day.
                      "I was inappropriately blunt, wasn't I? Sorry, I do that a lot."

You're not a developer, but you speak for them? Okay.....BTW, I haven't seen where anyone from D Tools answered when it will be ready, but one place..."The News" area with the landmark of October. So, hopefully we will see it released within the next 8 days. If not then we know to take D Tools/Loctus words with a grain of salt in the future. With all due respect it would be wise to not set any landmark dates or anything in the future. It's best to just release it when ready.

This thread would not have even be here if it wasn't for the "landmark" date posted in the News section. I don't know about others, but if a company or a man says he is going to do a task in a certain amount of time then I hold him to that. If that man/company runs into trouble during the task then they shouldn't wait to the last minute to say something.

I don't understand why it is so hard to answer a simple question like this. It's either yes or no. We are having problems or we are not. I don't see what can happen in the next 8 days that can stop them from answering this simple question. It's either ready or it's not. Please understand that alot of people come here everyday looking for it's release. If it's going to take longer then they should just say so then people won't be expecting so much from the "landmark" time THEY promised.

Here is a good way to look at this situation....

If your boss at your job hands you a task and you say you can have it ready by the end of the day and don't....Then you don't let him know until the last minute that ot won't be ready until tomorrow or a later date.....Do you think he will trust your words/work ethics in the future?

I can understand your comments because you are a Beta guy for them, but this situation is what it is. In short...Don't make Promises you CAN'T keep!!!! We will see in the next 8 days if D Tools "Word" is worth anything. Sorry, if I am coming off as a little rude/demanding, but I am only speaking what alot of people here are thinking, but are affraid to say.

Alot of people would rather here anyone from D Tools say "It won't be release this month like we promised, but we will release it when it is ready" than for them to be non chalant about the situation by not saying anything. Any company with good business ethics would state something instead of hiding behind the comfort of silence.

Pornostar_PSC, you're rude. And you see, this is just what the developers were afraid of. They didn't want to give a release date (or even a landmark for that matter), because then when problems arise and there's a delay, people will start complaining that the landmark hasn't been met. But, people kept complaining and asking "When is v4 going to be released".
I can't believe you're comparing this to a job situation. The daemon-tools team does all this for free. They don't get paid by a company, and the only money they do get, comes from people who chose to register.

Did you actually realize that he's a beta tester? He is using DTools v4 beta right now, and is probably in close contact with the developers.
Okay.....BTW, I haven't seen where anyone from D Tools answered when it will be ready, but one place..."The News" area with the landmark of October.
What's wrong with that? At least they gave some news about what they plan to do.

Anyway, I'll skip the rest of your post. The only thing left to say is that DTools 4 is just a piece of software. I think that people -- for some reason -- seem to think that sliced bread is the best invention since DTools 4. They're acting like their lifes depend on it! I can perfectly live with having to put the original disc of some games in the drive for a few more days (or even weeks). They are somewhat fragile, but not *that* fragile.
To contact me privately, pray. I might answer.

I explain why they don't answer. I can do that because I regularly speak with them.

[...] hopefully we will see it released within the next 8 days. If not then we know to take D Tools/Loctus words with a grain of salt in the future. That's what we've done since the FIRST DAY we mentioned "Daemon Tools v4". People kept asking for the release date ever since. We told them it'd be released "when it's done". They kept asking.

This thread would not have even be here if it wasn't for the "landmark" date posted in the News section.
Did you realize that the landmark date hasn't even been reached? Why do you keep ranting about the fact that we might not make it?

I don't understand why it is so hard to answer a simple question like this. It's either yes or no. We are having problems or we are not. I fully believe you when you say that you don't see what can happen in the next 8 days that would delay the release. Let me explain. Again.

There may be bugs we haven't found yet. Bugs that, for example, only appear on a hardware configuration we haven't tested it on yet. Those bugs may be fixed with a couple of keystrokes, or they may take hours, days, maybe weeks to be fixed. It's impossible to tell.

Daemon Tools uses a low-level driver to simulate a DVD drive that cannot be distinguished from a real drive. If you screw up there, you may very easily screw up the whole operating system. So if we find a critical bug, it's imperative that it be fixed prior to release. Again, we don't know whether we'll find such a bug while we fixe what known bugs are left to fix. If all bugs on our to-do list are fixed, and only then, we'll release it.

If your boss at your job hands you a task and you say you can have it ready by the end of the day and don't....Then you don't let him know until the last minute that ot won't be ready until tomorrow or a later date.....Do you think he will trust your words/work ethics in the future?
...and again, we can't tell you that we won't make our "deadline", as you(!) call it.

I can understand your comments because you are a Beta guy for them
I said the same before I got the beta. And I'll say the same for any other piece of software I'm not a beta tester for.

In short...Don't make Promises you CAN'T keep!!!! We will see in the next 8 days if D Tools "Word" is worth anything. Sorry, if I am coming off as a little rude/demanding, but I am only speaking what alot of people here are thinking, but are affraid to say.
If I recall the last months correctly, what we got was mostly praise, some people telling us that they can't await the release date and very few people actually complaining. And we've never deleted a complaining post nor banned a complaining user just for complaining; only if people got very offensive we deleted the posts to keep flamewars from starting.

And by the way, I wouldn't call it "a little rude". You're misinterpreting statements we made, and you are ranting because you are not getting what you want when you want it.

Let me quote Locutus' news item:
we plan to release the new Daemon Tools V4 next month (October).
That's no promise, he's talking about an intention. And by the way, what is your justification for demanding anything? You didn't pay a cent for Daemon Tools. So what is our obligation to you? We value our customers' opinions. And we value the opinion of everyone who comes here and treats us with respect. ...so would you mind explaining to me again why we should value yours?

Alot of people would rather here anyone from D Tools say "It won't be release this month like we promised, but we will release it when it is ready" than for them to be non chalant about the situation by not saying anything. Any company with good business ethics would state something instead of hiding behind the comfort of silence.
Stating something without knowing it's true doesn't make a "company with good business ethics". If anything, it makes a company with questionable marketing strategies because it keeps their customers quiet for the moment - while risking their profound (and justified) anger when they realize they've been lied to. It's not much better than releasing a piece of software with known bugs.
                              "I was inappropriately blunt, wasn't I? Sorry, I do that a lot."

okay, I'm a developer and here is an official word:

We plan to release it this month - it is also possible that
release is delayed a little bit. We're talking about one week
maximum, not weeks or even month.
What concerns Netsoerfer: He is in very close contact with
us and is moreover our Supermoderator here and always in-
                                formed about our current development-status.

                                @"Pornostar (interesting nick):

If you visit this forum regularly, you had maybe noticed that
we got bombed out by "when is release" - questions. Although
we always answered "when it's done", people mailed ~300-400
emails/day about releasedate. So we give them a landmark
to our best knowledge - a delay is always possible, but I can't
believe that someone will kill us if we delay it for one week.

                                @Nikos: 100% ack - I couldn't replied better than that!

apart from that, people tend to blame us when we tell them
"it's done when it's done". They blame us now for a landmark
For bugs, for delay, for not saying anything etc. etc.

Of course this are only a few, but those few post here and
so people may think this is normal tenor. No, it ISN'T - in
general, people see it like Nikos.
