    ...

Lazlo, (i'm just repeating what's said above) you should be able to play X3 without a reboot in the next DAEMON Tools version.

I've managed to get x3 working ok

I disabled the pata controller, clicked disable cd, disable node in sfn. Mounted x3 in alcohol with dpm enabled and bingo.

Now i'm just annoyed i didn't try this way sooner, it will not work for me without sfn but i thought before sfn was useless with this version of starforce.

Just thought i'd post this as an alternate solution if anyone is having the same trouble of rebooting on clicking the exe.

Ok im new here so i hope this is the correct thread.

there is a huge issue with X3 locking up on people, freezing

while the game is playing for no apparent reason, requiring a

              hard reboot to recover from.

What im wondering is, Are people that are running X3 from a
mounted image also suffering from this random game freeze.

My second question is (remember im new here) I own X3
and im American, Is it totally legal for me to run X3 from a image
as i would like to do this if it stops the game freezes.

The user community has tried everything to identify the cause
of these freezes with the exception of not having SF running..

              Thanks for your help....

Failed to identify the disc in the drive insert a licensed disk
then i hit retry and it askes me to insert a code

When i got this it was because something wasn't disabled properly. I was getting the code thing all the time, even with my drives unplugged.

Just by chance i hit disable node, disable cd in starforce nightmare and it boots up no problem now, even with the new 1.3 patch of x3.

Have you got an nforce 3/4 motherboard ? You can run this without unplugging if you have

You get the "please put the cd into another drive" erroif your drives aren't unplugged correctly or only disabled.

The code error is displayed if the code on the cd doesn't match with the entered key. this can be because of a bad dpm, then try to read anew good one or download some. Sometimes it works if you press disable node in SFN or if you use DT 3.47 or Alcohol insteadof DT 4 for mounting.

Is this a new way to avoid the copy protection?

I've got Daemon Tools v4.03HE on my laptop. The mds image is on my main pc. Daemon Tools is therefore mounting the image on the laptop across my home network. I'm updated to version 1.3 of X3 and its working fine on the laptop with no need to disconnect cables or running other programs.

Appreciate this will not work for all, but it this a known work around ?

What motherboard chipset is your laptop based on?
