  • How to create an image file without having burned the data first?

Hello I don't know where else to post this question and hopefully it's not much of an OT.

I need to create an image file (any type supported by daemon tools) containing simple data (no need to bypass any protection). The problem is that most programmes which can create Image files can do so only using a CD/DVD as a source. However, I need to create an image with files already located on HD as the source. Could anyone recommend me a SW which can do it? Thx in advance.

    A couple of free options:

    Infra Recorder: http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/

    CDBurnerXP: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

Also, Nero, Roxio and I think most general purpose disc mastering software can do this, so it's likely you already have something on you machine (but you may have to do some digging to find out how).

Also very good (if not the best, depends on the purpose) - Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/

Its quite easy with nero. Just drag the files into a cd or dvd image you create (i.e. with file, new) and choose IMAGE RECORDER to burn to instead of your dvd drive. Nero can create both .NRG (nero image) and .ISO files, you choose choose which one in the file drop down it displays when its about to "burn"

Note that I'm using nero 6 and none of that express crap, if you use something else you'll have to get the info from someone else
