  • unable to use Starforce protected virtual disc

    yo ppl,

    having some trouble over here...
I'm trying to get a copy of the game "Bet On Soldier" to work,
I've tried several things, but no luck so far.

Whatever I try, the starforce protection system always tells me
'Insert the Bet On Soldier disc into another drive then press "Retry".'

I geuss it's not possible to use DAEMON Tools 3.47, I will have to wait for v4?
So I tried using Alcohol 120% as well. (v1.95 build 3105)
I've set the 'RMPS emulation' and the
'Sub-Channel Data Fixed and Emulation' options.
But still no luck. From what I read so far I only need to set these 2 options?
Or do I have to set 'BAD Sectors Emulation'
    and/or 'LaserLock Emulation' as well?
Or disable one/all of my current options?
(I should mention I have the *.mdf, *.mds files so I should be able to do a correct emulation ->DPM)

Then I tried to uninstall starforce by using the tool suggested here on the forum (BSOD in SCSIPORT.SYS during Daemon Tools installation http://www2.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/showthread.php?t=3393)
That doesnt do any good because the next time you start the game, starforce will get reinstalled so...
Or am I missing something here?

I thought that starforce detected that there was some emulation software present so I tried hiding the virtual drive by using SR7.Stop from http://cdmediaworld.com/
That didn't do me no good eather.
(at this time daemon tools was uninstalled so that couldnt be the problem).

Don't know what to try next
Should I try to burn it to a CDR and disable/uninstall all emulation software? (didnt try it yet because I dont wanna waste another disc...)
Will it make any difference if I enable any copy protection option in daemon?
Or should I try using QuickMount for hiding/antiblacklisting daemon?

all suggestion are more than welcome

    some specs if needed:
Bet On Soldier (US 1.1 4cd version), Starforce 3.5.10.01
    win xp pro v2002 sp2
only one physical drive: NEC DVD RW ND-3500AG

post edited because BoS version was incorrect

My advice to you is to just wait, DT v4 & DT Pro will hopefully get released soon.

      BoS is SF 3.5 protected.
      You have to use sfcure:
Follow these instructions and it should work
You'll need a perfect dpm you could download one as an mds from copybase.ch

1.Install SFCure driver (start SFAFSB and press install)
2.Mount it with Alc or DT with rmps emu
      3.Install Game
4.After installation launch sfdrup.exe to update StarForce3 drivers and reboot the box
5.Start SFCure driver (start SFAFSB and press start)
6.You've to disconnect your ide drives from your computer and
press at SF Nightmare on ths disable node button.(disble cd works for sf versions before sf3.5, so at this versions you havn't to disconnect your drives)
      7. Launch the Game and enjoy!
If it doesn't work you can use virtual cd hide or if you've mounted the image with DT, try Alcohol!

Be sure that you only have 1 virtual drive enabled (1 at DT and 0 at Alc or 1 at alc and 0 at dt)

I've uploaded the tools for youscrool down, press on free, wait some seconds, press on the download link)

If it's giving you the message "Insert the Bet On Soldier disc into another drive then press Retry"
It means starforce has detected an IDE drive, and therefore won't read from the scsi image drive. Make sure you disconnect all IDE drives first.
And to get "Bet On Soldier" running, you will also have to use SFcure.

So, both DTV4 and DTV4 Pro will have StarForce?

              thx man,
but I have some questions though

Do I have to uninstall the game first?
Is it really necessary to unplug your IDE cable or is it sufficient to disable the physical drive through device manager?

Please uninstall the game first, it's safer and really took not much time.
You've to unplug or disconnesct your drives from your pc.
BoS is SF3.5 protected, at SF3.4 it works with disabe the drives but with SF nightmare by clicking on disable cd.
Don't forget clicking on disable node at SF Nightmare that's
                important.
                Good Luck

                  still no luck

                  hi,

                  thx so far!
                  but still no luck =(
I'm wondering about the purpose of the steps you suggested
because it's not possible to do them in that order
(can't use sfdrvup.exe untill I've started the game for the first time, because starforce will get installed when starting the game for the first time)

                  so these are my questions:
                  * what does the sfcure driver (sfcure01.sys) do?
                  * why does the driver have to be installed before the game,
it seems it isn't used untill you start it,
which we do after game install.
(seems like this when reading the sfcure batch files)
                  * I guess sfdrvup.exe is a crackpatch,
that will disable some fucntionallity of starforce?
                  * sfnightmare?

If I understand the process, I will maybe be able to figure out whats going wrong in my case.

and any other suggestions are still verry welcome...

my specs again, because BoS version was wrong:
Bet On Soldier (US 1.1 4cd version), Starforce 3.5.10.01
                  win xp pro v2002 sp2
only one physical drive: NEC DVD RW ND-3500AG
                  need more specs?

You don't have to install sfcure before you install the game you could after install it, too.
Could you start the game without restarting, after installling it?
Normally you have to restart because of the sf driver.
If you couldn't execute sfdrvup after installing then try restarting and after that exec. sfrvup and reboot, if it works!
The sfcure only do sth. if you press start, so until you havn't press start (only on install) he isn't active, only installed.
With SF Nightmare you have to disable your drives,so that there is after disbling only the one virtual drive.
You have to press disablecd and disable node (important), or you could disconnect your drives by putting out the cable with the 2 black one red and one yellow cabel, called molex.

Make sure SF3.5 is properly available on your system.
Do NOT uninstall it, cause the scheme doesnt work
                        if its NOT present.

You dont have to disconnect the IDE cables.

All you have to do is disconnect the power cords from
any internal CD/DVD/BURNER. No use to fumble around
in bios or hardware manager. Just pull the plug at the
drives rear end that should suffice.

Mount image in DT, (i have removed all other virtual drives)

Launch the start.bat that comes with sfcure.

Launch SFNightmare and hit disable Node , Disable CD and Disable Node again.

                        Launch the game.

Works perfectly with all SF3.5+ games i have tested.

That's what i mean with disconnecting, but i didn't know how to describe it (I'm german).
You only have to pull the plug with the 4 cable (2xblack, red yellow) out. It's the power plug of the drive. You don't need to pull out the flat IDE cable. The power plug is enough.

I have the same problem with Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. With all this unplugging business, do I have to actually open up the computer and unplug the drive? If I have to do that, the screw you all. Can anybody help me too? My newly posted threads don't show up for some goddamned reason.
My post count is screwed up...
