  • UFO Aftershock patch 1.2 - StarForce freezes

    After upgrading UFO: Aftershock to version 1.2, the StarForce progress bar locks up around 1/3 of the way through.

    Previous versions (1.0 and 1.1) worked fine about half the time, but caused a BSOD the other half.

    A-Ray says that the StarForce version has not changed, but the date of the protect.exe and protect.dll have.

    What OS and Service Pack are you using? What version of DAEMON Tools are you using? Does the 'progress bar lock' happen with your original disc or with the virtual drive or both?

      4.00 and I don't know if there's a sub-version.

      Only happens with the disk image. With the original DVD in it flys through. With a mounted image it sits there for a while and either decides whether it wants to allow it or reboot the machine. Sometimes reboots don't flicker the BSOD, but I imagine I just don't see it, because it's at the exact same spot.

      Strange. I tried it at least 10 times, earlier today, and it locked up StarForce if it didn't BSOD. Now it started okay on the first try. Something is really flaky, whether it's my dying windows install, StarForce or Daemon Tools. Hopefully I'll get another hard drive tomorrow and re-install.

        maybe you should set your pc to not auto-restart so you can note down what file is causeing the bsod.

          I got a similiar problem, but a bit worse. Instead of getting a bluescreen computer instantly reboots. The funny thing is that auto-reboot is turned off, and i dont even get a minidump of the problem.

          We should go thru what we are doing and why we are getting the "same" problem!

            I simply use SFNightmare and disable (following this
            sequence):
            a) sec. master;
            b) node;
            c) cd;
            d) ch2;
            then reboot the pc and repeat the same steps again
            (i.e. relaunch SFN and disable etc.);
            finally run AS.
            No need to unplug the ide cable.
            Tested with the latest patch (v1.2) as well and now the game
            is really enjoyable.
            Using Weapon Rebalance Mod v3.02 (thanks ShadowWarrior).
            No crash at all.
            I have a S-Ata hd and a dvd burner on sec. master.
            My O.S. is Win XP SP1.
            That's that, just my personal experience.
            Hope this may be of help to anyone of you.
