    making mini images

Use a software called alcohol 120% which can be downloaded at www.download.com.
then insert the cd/dvd u want to create the mini image.
start alcohol 120% n click on 'image making wizard' option.
then chose safedisc from the left down corner dropdown box.
change the read speed to 1x(150kb/sec).
    then follow the instructions!!!!!!
but when the image is being created stop the process at 5% n click on yes option.then say no 2 delete the files.
then ur images .mds n mdf will be created.
mount them in daemon tools n then use the safedisc 4.7 to create a backup registry n start the game!!!!!!!!!!!
i have the .pdf manual.give ur email address if u want the file.

ok only thing that works for safedisc is full image.

        for bf2142 1.06

create full image with alcohol 120% (latest)

use latest daemon tools 4.08 and SPTD V1.38 to mount with safedisc emulation on.

now you can run the game WITHOUT disabling you optical drives

anyone found a way to make a mini image???

P.S alcohol 120% caused a problem running the game, 'please insert DVD' error. i uninstalled it. unless your disable their emulation.

I can't believe how easy this was. I had previously used ISO Recorder X64 to make the image of BF2142 and it wouldn't work with Daemon Tool. So today I download the latest Alcohol 120 and the latest Daemon Tools and it works fine now. Who woulda thunk it.

Are there any programs to identify scanned sector of a image?

In other words, i have a full working backup of a DVD (bf2142) but i am trying to make the image smaller. since mini images don't work for SafeDisc 4.70.

Has anyone got any ideas to delete the unwanted content and only keep the parts that SafeDisc scans.

because this 'no mini image' thing is really bugging me.

You could try Bus Hound by Perisoft to get sectors.
Make something idiot proof, but then they just make a better idiot

Following my link(s) you would have found this thread, where you can read that Bushound trial is capable of only logging 32 commands, so it's recommended to only log neccessary data as described here ... and to start the log in the right moment

                    last 6 commands?
so what the right moment to start it, lol
Way in over my head here. Need help in identifying the data

even if i did manage to get the data, how do i go about deleting all the extra crap that's not needed, to make the image small? Hex editor and setting all to 0?

                      00 00 00 00 00 00
The ascending series of sectors -the major part of the check- is the so called SafeDisc Signature which also contains the weak sectors. This signature and everything before has to stay in your "maxi image" to pass check (not really everything, but not worth mentioning). So in this example the first gap to be filled with zeros starts at sector 1360. The last five sectors are the already mentioned ISO/content-check which also have to stay -> first gap ends before first ISO-check begins. So you "only" have to catch the part containing the big leap from Signature-, to ISO-check incl. all five sectors. There is no similar leap in the check, so nothing to mix up Now convert the hexadecimal (bold) sector data to decimal values e.g. with Windows Calculator

Sectors to be filled with zeros:
                      1360..286043
                      286045..633999
                      634001..925323
                      925325..1248719
                      1248721..1259447
                      1259449..last sector of DVD

I'm using BW5Tweaker to define the gaps. Just look at this (since v7.27/7.28 no more working) Securom Maxi-Image guide. Of course you can also use a Hexeditor which lets you define blocks (Sector * 2048) and fill them with zeros.

P.S.: I don't have BF2142, does the DVD have to stay in the drive after game start ?

what program are your using to get that result? bus hound? seems to be a different looking results. do i need to tweak the settings?

and bf2142 doesn't need the DVD in the drive once started.

if i try and get the full result can you identify the sectors etc..

I am using version 5.0 of Bus Hound and I 've cut my log until first data is read; to get only needed commands you can make your log look like mine by unchecking IN and ok phases in Bushound settings.
Only the READ commands starting with hex value 28 are important - 28 00 00 se ct or 00 00
So these are the sectors read in your log:
                          Code:
                          28 00 00 [B]00 28 1a[/B] 00 00 10266
                          28 00 00 [B]00 01 0a[/B] 00 00 266
                          28 00 00 [B]00 01 0c[/B] 00 00 268
                          28 00 00 [B]00 00 10[/B] 00 00 16
Looks like it ends some commands before SD Sig check starts (maybe sector 10266 is also part of check)

P.S.: I guess it's better for the clearness of the thread to PM me your logs

You can't, your settings are ok now. You just don't see the other lines that often in my log cause for "better" illustration i've deleted them, too.
In your last log you've captured beginning of SD Sig check (00 01 c0 -> 448). It will end at about sector 927 (00 03 9f). Try again until you get that region + the following "far beyond" 5 checks.

Pleased you've found the part needed ,but there a more than 5 sectors after SD Sig check in this version , don't know whether they're all part of the check, so no guarantee for this Blindwrite 5/6 profile (save as BF2142.ini and copy to C:\Program files\VSO\BlindWrite5(6)\profiles):
