Because recommending ClonyXXL is a REALLY bad idea.
It's a terrible choice for detecting copy protections.
It detects MANY protections incorrectly and cannot detect anything new.
Just because Diablo is old doesn't mean ClonyXXL could detect it, because it does so many things wrong.

      Hi,

Just wanted to update. I was able to get the Daemon program running and am able to avoid the endless spinning cd drive syndrome while playing the games. Thanks for everyones help.

Aray and Alcohol120 were great recommendations.

      Sincerely , Mark

Ok, I've been fiddling with Diablo for 2-3 hours now and I've just about given up hope of ever getting a working image of this game....

********al (whos site I can't access now) gets me the usual: "the program have enountered a problem and needs to close".

And no gameprotection database has Diablo in it....

        I've also tried numerous unsafedisc/securom/uncheck

The cduncheck said it worked but STILL that godforsaken "insert cd" notification popped up!!

My last try will be to copy diabdat.mpq to the install dir. If that doesn't work then you people are my only hope.

Did you use Alcohol120? You don't need a game database. Download Aray Scanner and scan the disc.

I have runned A-ray in all three ways now and it doesn't give anything. The first two "scan" and "scan sector" were on the disc and the third "scan directory" I tried on both the disc and install dir but it only says things like "file(s) scan finished".

How did you create the image you're trying to run the game from?

I also am trying to get diablo1 up and running and as of yet have had no luck. If there is no copy protection, would it work to just burn it as an ISO?

well.. the iso appears to function correctly. I ran into several (probably hundreds) of read file errors at the end of the burn, got tired of waiting for my pc to stumble through them all and shut down the burn... It still works though, strange eh?
