• Neverwinter Nights Diamond

Sorry to bother all of you but I have nowhere else to turn to in my desperate need for gaming

I bought last night the Neverwinter Nights Diamond (not the platinium or gold) pack which comprises of the original game, the 2 expansions and the 3 modules.

The only trouble is that it came as a DVD, which I do not have on my desktop PC. So I shared my laptop DVD player to install the game on the desktop. So far so good.

The trouble is that the game requires the DVD inside the player. Which I cannot put for reasons mentionned above

So I am left with either two choices: try to make the game access the shared DVD player on the laptop or make an image. I don't know much about editing stuff so I'd rather take my chance with mounting an image.

Reading a couple of posts, it seems Alcohol 120% is the best choice to make an image so I gave it a try. But several problems cropped up:

-I cannot choose the profile. No Securom, Safedisc what-not. It seems for DVD there's no option at all. So I made the image anyway.
-Mounting the image with DT yields a negative result. The game detects the emulation thingy.
-So this time I add the SR7 twist, and this time it seems it doesnt detect anything. I got the "Original disc could not be found or authenticated." error bleh.

Using A-Ray scanner, it seems the protection type is Securom, for I get this msg "[10:04:32 AM] SecuROM 7.00.00.0007 detected -> C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe
[10:04:38 AM] --- File(s) Scan Finished [5.38s] ---"

At this point I have no clue what else to do and as you can see I am not knowledgeable about imaging and sutff.

Anyone care to help please? >_<

Have you tried SR7.Stop?
You can get it here.

having the same problem...

Hey folks I just got the new Neverwinter Nights diamond today, and am also a little dismayed that its on DVD. I have a DVD burner on my desktop, but the idea behind buying this game was that I'd take it around to friends houses for big nerdy gaming sessions (sadly my laptop has no DVD player) For other games I've used Alcohol 120% to make images and then I just run them with Daemon, and things work fine. However I'm having trouble getting this one to work.

I think my problem is essentially the same thing as Kamui34 had.
I tried all of the different suggestions. Upon making an image with DPM on high, I can install the game with no problems, but when it comes to running, it gives me the emulation error message. I've tried enabling all the different emulation types in Daemon, to no effect. I've also tried the SR7 Stop program, and finally it worked!!!

You may be asking, well then what's my problem. I know it may seem picky and trivial, but is there anyway I can get this to work WITHOUT using SR7 Stop ??? I don't know, but I just feel like it might be illegal (gasp!) and I'd rather not have extra programs running that I dont have to...ß's answer seemed a bit hard to follow, but it looked like it worked for Kamui34, so far it hasn't for me.... I'll attach some screenshots to show you how I'm going about this... maybe you can point out what I might be doing wrong ???

Thanks a million guys!!!
(hopefully you can read the image, its kinda low quality to save space on my website :P)

Hi lancelott

settings are correct, your burner is able to read the DPM so your image will be fine. I suggest to use always the lowest speed to read out the DPM data.
But there was a thread regarding this, I think from Nikos, I'll have a look.

But with Securom V7 I see no way using it without SR7.Stop.

But is SR7.Stop illegal? I can't imagine as SR7.Stop is NOT altering any binaries of the game. Anyone with an different opinion?

Maybe you should consider the suggestions from Nikos.

Best luck

...

I don't know if SR7.Stop is illegal (it depends on the user and what country they live in) but we allow talking about it here.

alrighty

thanks for the speedy reply! I tired setting my DPM to the lowest setting, and I was able to make an image as usual. Again though, when I mount it w/Daemon Tools I get an emulation error... I guess my only real problem was the Securom 7 detection thing, and its not so big a problem thanks to S7 Stop.

Just curious though, will Daemon 4 have increased capability for hiding itself from big evil copy protection softwares like Securom and SafeDisc??

Also, someone mentioned alcohol blacklisting as the reason for all these problems. Is it then the case that when I make my image with alcohol it puts a little tag on it saying "THIS IS AN IMAGE, DON'T ALLOW THE PERSON TO USE THIS"

I'm just wondering which side is really at fault here. Is it the fact that alcohol marks the image as "bad" or is it the fact that the image is a carbon copy, and that Securom 7 on the DVD (and hence the on the image) is able to detect virtual devices???

well its actually the fault of "behind times" game companies who are still using these obsolete distribution methods; 3 cheers for the guys in charge of HL2/steam, IMO they are setting a prime example of how software should be distributed!!

cheers, and thanks again!

Hey this would be a nice trick ;-)

No blacklisting is working from the copy protection side.
Alcohol will not add a small tag...

The copy protection checks whether a known dvd/cd-drive emulation is present. If it finds one it will stopp starting the game.

SecuRom 7 problems

Hi I have the same problem as kamui and lancelott. I used ARay to find the protection, and then I followed your advice to create the image, DPM High, lowest speed, etc... which seemed to work fine. I mounted the image with dtools, used it to install, everythings fine and dandy, except it just wont run. I turned all the emulation options on, message:

Please remove disc from current CD/DVD drive and insert the original disc in another drive F:. (where F: is my first real drive)

So I tried using SR7.Stop, message:

Original disc could not be found or authenticated.

I did some more searching through the forums, tried disabling both my real drives in the device manager and ran it, same message.

Next tried disabling admin rights to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices, message:

A required security module can not be activated. This program can not be executed.

At this point I gave up and asked you guys, so please help me get my moneys worth here! Thanks!

Icarus5, do you have StarForce drivers installed on your system? If so, they interfere with Alcohol's DPM process. Uninstall the drivers and try creating a new image.

tried that

I just downloaded it and ran the exe, but it told me there are no such drivers on my comp. I'll try to make another image, DPM high, lowest burning speed, are there any other options I should use? Thanks for the help!

Don't burn it, mount the image with Daemon Tools. If it doesn't work with lowest speed for DPM, try some faster speed, maybe it'll work better then. I made good images of UFO: Aftershock (StarForce 3.6) with 16x DPM speed...

image creating problems

Ok, I attempted to create a new image file using Alcohol 120%, when I noticed something I hadn't the last time. I used all the same settings, but there was an error with the DPM. Heres a portion of the log (I've omitted all the technical specs):

Dumping/Recording Progress Log
Processor info: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz x 2 (2992MHz)
Disc dumping: (F PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8701(0:1)
Reading Mode: General Mode
DVD Source Info: Session: 1, Track: 1, Length: 2.56 GB / 298:00:56
DPM measuring precision: High / 4.0X (5540 KB/Sec)
Wait for a while for DPM analysis.
Cannot get the right DPM info from the disc with current device
Writing image file: ~\NW_DIAMOND.mdf
22:28:39 Disc dumping aborted!
~\NW_DIAMOND.mds: Image file writing aborted!

I've put the error line in bold. The first time I thought this was normal and let it run, and it still produced an image that let me install but not run of course. Now, I looked at the pic lancelott posted and saw that he doesn't get this message, he was successful. What could be causing this error, how can I fix it, and is it the problem?

Thanks!
