  • What else have I not tried?

    Hello,

Been lurking for a few days and reading. But now this is getting personal.

    ENV
    ----
    OS: WinXP SP2
CDR: Generic one that came with Dell. Some kinda Samsung
CDR Software Installed: Blindwrite 5.2.16.154, Alcohol v1.9.5.3105, Some flavour of Nero
    Other: Daemon Tools 3.47
    Game: Silent Storm Sentinels v1.1
Protection: Securom 5.x.008 + JoWood Xprot

    ISSUE
    ------
After all longish spinning CD icon it tells me to bugger off and put in my original cd and/or goto to securom.com/copy

    THINGS TRIED
    ----------------

    Chronologically

    Nero
    1) create image with Nero
    2) mount image with DT or reburn image and use DT emulation
    3) Error result insert orginal disc

Scour the forums. read and use search function like fiend.

    Blindwrite
    1) Create BWA, BWT and BWI
    2) mount with DT and burn image with BW and then do DT Emulation
    3) Error result. Uninstall patin-couffin engine
    4) disable said engine
    5) Error result Insert orignal blah blah. Contact Securom.com/copy

    Curse like sailor

All the while I've been trying different premutations of bypassing the blacklist when I use DT.

    Blacklist Fixes Tried
    1) Manual regedit
    2) Hide_Virtual_CD.exe
    3) rename regedit driver entry to "atapi"

Same error as above. Despite all the registry tricks the Jowood .exe is still able to blacklist the emulation or image. ie. image unmounted and/or emulation option disabled (RPMS)

Cursing like a HAIRY chested sailor now.

What else do I try?. I'll be damned if I have to uninstall my cdr apps.

    cheers,
    ed

I bet you didn't create the disc image properly. I would try downloading a special profile made just for SecuROM v.5.x.
Link: http://users.pandora.be/frag-empire/BW5Profile.zip and thanks to whomever uploaded/hosts that file.

Some DVD drives cannot read DPM info accurately. If this is the case with your drive, then try to borrow a friends computer to copy the image to his/her hard disk then transfer/upload the image to your hard disk through some manner of file sharing.

Is the install disc(s) a CD or DVD?

p.s. You can uncheck all the emulation options when mounting an image in this case.

You might be correct. But I will reburn my image with another burner. This time a Pioneer DVD burner. And I'll test it without the update. If it works then I know my image is good. Not to mention my technique of creating the image.

Thanks for the profile I'll give it a shot

        burning SecuROM v.5.x

I think there are only one or two drives on the market that can burn SecuROM v.5.x. It's generally assumed that you have to mount it virtually because it will always give you non-working burned copies.

A burner method that works: plextor premium writer with firmware revision 1.03 or later and you must use the program blindwrite v. 4.5.3 or later (thanks to philamber for my paraphrase).

          Woah that's a quick response.

Yeah.. I was looking at a plextor premium.

          Newegg is out of stock.

I was trolling the cdfreaks forums as well.

I'll note down the firmware rev that I need.

          sigh..

Stuff was much easier back in my Apple II days.

            p.s.

Let me know if you cannot get the game to play in the virtual drive, you seem to know all the blacklisting (manual deny permissions, setting driver value to 'atapi' instead of DT system service name, etc.) tricks.

                Ohio,

I still can't play it. But now I just want to see if I can make backup.

I'm still looking around to get a plexwriter premium, so that I can recreate my image with a better drive. But in the meantime, I ummm.. got another set of images when it ummm.. fell of a truck.. These had a set proper .bwa files etc. I tried to use DT and still no joy.

So you might be right, I think its my creation of the image is what's buggering me up.

securom 5 have a blacklist, so you must change some key in the registre...
I have only french links about this modification, but you probably found it on the forum
