OK... So. Everyone hats starforce, so we all come here and badger lotus to make the new version of DT so we can play our SF protected games without the Original CD.
Here is the facts: Most people who download this program, want to download this program, or even know what DT is, DONT buy legitimate copies of the game. Thats why they get this.. so they dont have to. Reguardless of what your disclamer sais, you know it. I know it, everyone else knows it. Such is life. Deal with it.
The main point of DT4 (from my understanding) is to combat the new problems presented by StarForce. Correct?
Now, if I am also reading everything here correctly, to get the "virtual ide drive" which is designed to get around "StarForce", we have to pay to register our version of DT. (ie. DT Pro). So... We have to PAY to be able to use a program to ILLEGIALLY run games without the original CD.
Sure, some people own the game. And if u own the game, and are too lazy to put the CD in, why on earth would you be here day in, day out, posting on the forums to get a program so that u can use your "back up cds/images" to play? Seems like it would take less energy for you to just leave the original CD in ur rom.
But alas, you dont do this, why? because for most of you (like me), you dont own the game. So, you want to get DT which will allow you to play your not-so-legitimate version without issue.
It seems like a case of pure irony that people are lining up to pay $16US (which is $25 where I come from... ty exchange rate), so we can play our ilegal copies/backups/whatever's of these games. If people were going to pay to play them - dont you think they would just go out, buy the game legit, use the orriginal CD like you now have to by-law (yes, they have been changing lots of laws with personal backups), and just take care of the CDs so they dont die?
Personally, I cant afford either, so I really dont care. After writing this, I will probably just go back to playing World Of Warcraft.
I will be perfectly honest (its what I do best..), I come back to this site every few days to see if the new version has come out, so I can play SC:CT for a bit here and there when the WoW servers are down every tuesday (either that, or I'll just watch TV).
Making people have to register DT so they can do the one thing that people wanted it to be able to do in the new version, makes about as much sence as people paying to register Kazaa so they can go and illegially download pirated music. Hell, appart from SF, i dont see any other reason to even update DT. it has never given me problems with anything else.
Sounds a bit pointless, doesnt it?
Yes, ST is causing headaches. Yes, allowing people to get around it will make lots of little pirates very happy. (Arr!) But charging people for a way around it makes you no better than the companies who charge $90 for the crappy games in the first place.
Sure, i know it takes a long time to make stuff like this. But your not the only person who has ever invested time into making what should-be freeware. Hell, I helped make and admin an online RPG Game with over 2k members, and we hosted it with our own cash.
But thats what freeware is about. Putting yourself out to help thoes who otherwise cant afford it.
Sure, there might be a bunch of great new additions to DT4. But if it doesnt fix the main problem that people are after a solution for, and you make them have to register just to get that solution, your going to have a lot of ticked-off members.
If your only in this for money, then so be it. Stick porn adds all over ur site to the highest bidder, and charge everone and arm and a leg for DT4. Its only hurting you.
If anyone relativly important is reading this, they are probably exeptionally pissed at me, and probably going to ban me in roughly 6 seconds. Meh. I registered to make my point. That is done. Banning me will only prove it, more so.
People come here and post not just for the program, but out of respect for the programmer, who was giving his time to help them get a bit of enjoyment out of their lives. If such respect was misplaced, then perhaps we have al just wasted out time.
I personally will not be registering nor paying for a program specifically designed to allow users to illigially play pirated games. (thats just plain dumb.)
I thought I only had to download a crack for the game its self, but it looks like when DT Pro is released we will have to download a crack for the game we are pirating, and a crack for the pirated version of the program to help us play the pirated version of the game we just got a crack for.
So no one will end up getting any money anyway...
