NetSoerfer, You are 100% correct in every statement that you have made. I highly doubt that Pornostar_PSC speaks for anyone but himself and I for one appreciate the fact that I see you post a lot on what D Tools is doing any information is something more than what we have had.

PornoStar_PSC your business situation works in every field but software development, I for one know this, I work in the field. Most bosses when you tell them that you will finish something today then down the line at about 10 minutes before its due find out something is wrong, you tell them and they have to deal with the fact that its not working because of an unanticipated error. Sp you tell your boss and the facts the fact, you can do much more then try to work out the bugs as quickly as you can or as you put it you set your dead line to a later date. Now that story is different if you haven't been working on it till the last minute but we know that D Tools is working hard for us because they like to not because they have to. Also if they didn't do this then D tools would turn out like Windows and some other applications I know of, that within a few days of launch have 5 patches because there was something wrong in the release.

      @Pornstar_PSC:

as a sidenote: We are not nVidia - we must take care of all
resources we have - as you maybe noticed, not even V4
is out - why should we prefer to finish X64-support when
even our main-product is not out yet??? Give us some time
      - please! Makes me already sad that I have to excuse for
our bad support. Yes sir, I'm sorry that we are that bad in your
eyes I feel ashamed that there are users out there that
really think we rest 20 hours/day and only work 10 minutes.

However, yes, V4 already support Vista.

Thanks Elune for makeing things clear. I thought the comparision with nvidia a little extreme to say the least. After all it's not like the daemon tools team have limitless resources as such. Also I must say, I'd much rather wait for a product release that "feels" final than having to go through a series of alpha's and beta's.

(unless it is intentionally beta... then it can be fun trying to find bugs in anticipation for the final product)

        @LocutusofBorg
"apart from that, people tend to blame us when we tell them
"it's done when it's done". They blame us now for a landmark
For bugs, for delay, for not saying anything etc. etc.

Of course this are only a few, but those few post here and
so people may think this is normal tenor. No, it ISN'T - in
general, people see it like Nikos."

hehe, well i'd just like to say thankyou for all efforts so far, in both development and beta. I think we'd like to hear more of what's actually happening, but that's a good thing. I believe i speak true when i say we are all very anxious to see DT4 in its release, but the wait makes it all the sweeter ;-)

        @NetSoerfer
"Did you realize that the landmark date hasn't even been reached? Why do you keep ranting about the fact that we might not make it?"

There will always be the negative unfortunately :-( as i said before, i believe i'd rather wait longer than the deadline and have a stable version than go through a series of problems. DT3.47 is one of the most useful programs on my pc and will stick with using it till something substantially better comes out, hehe, it's hard to make a great program better....

@ Elune, its a no win situation anyway if it isnt finished yestreday then Joe Blow is pissed and your the worst thing since whatever, generally Joe Blow doesnt care about the work, testing etc etc that go into making a program he wants the finished thing in his hands as quickly and cheaply as possible and woe betide if his Computer crashes when he installs it.

            seems like a no-win scenario

you release with SOME bugs, ppl love you, others DDOS your site
you dont release and dont give date, ppl hate you
you dont release but give date ppl hate you more

            you cant win this

            btw for the beta testers:
i beta test another software and i can tell you that i can care
less when many ppl ask for when its ready , cuz i already have the beta , which works mostly well
so when as a beta tester you tell some1 to just wait its unfair
cuz you cant know what that person is feeling when you are using what he would kill to use, even if it had all the bugs a microsoft proggrammer can put in one software

            and for the devs:
theres a 4th and 5th option for the ones above
you release as beta, and make sure ppl know it is what it is
or you can release it with a build in auto update that will get new versions as they come (or atleast notifly about them)

              Just my opinion!

Let me put it like this:
I am just as anxious as everyone else here about DT v4. But as Nikos already mentioned i can wait for the release without ranting around and demanding anything from the developers. Personally i think i dont have the right to demand anything from the developers although i am a customer. I became a customer just because i wanted to support the dev-Team and to show my appreciation for their hard work. In the end you have to realize that the devs also are "normal" people. They have to work like everyone else and DT is developed in their sparetime (Well, thats what I guess).

I totally agree with what NetSoerfer said. There are still a few days left until the end of Octobre and there are already ppl starting to complain about something that actually didnt take place. In my honest opinion thats very poor.

Whatever. As always i just wanted to show the developers my appreciation for their hard work and to give a feedback of a somewhat "regular" user, meaning:
YES! There are guys amongst all the users who are kinda anxious about the release but still and always will be satisfied with the way the developers handle the development of DT.

Good job Elune, Locutus, the whole beta team and everyone else i have forgotten or might not know about.

Problem with a public beta is that this way, DTv4 could be blacklisted before it's even released as a final. Especially if some of the protective measures are not implemented yet, the last thing we want is the copy protection industry to get their hands on it... Nobody (except them of course) would profit from that.

An automatic update check would be nice, indeed... But let's keep such feature suggestions for the time after the release of DTv4 final. It's been frozen for a long time anyway, no new features but only bug fixing is done right now.

Hehe, I wonder how many people have thought about that. Most just want the software but I doubt that anyone has thought passed most of their needs. Your right, DTv4 being blacklisted even before it became a production product would suck... (And even more people would rant because of this.)

                    i find this reasoning useless
you actually belive that when dtv4 final will come it wont
be blacklisted on the first game patch that same day?

and if they did manage a good enough cloaking for it
you actually expect us to belive that such huge thing can be changed much in a week or two?

i agree there might be bugs that can damage some systems
but i disagree to blacklisting as an argument

*sigh* nevermind. It's useless to discuss this with some people, obviously.

FWIW, I must admit that I am quite eager, and the promise of DTools made me register ahead of time. (I know how these projects work, and, often a little recognition, along with some cash, can work wonders.)

I Have enough questionable software as it is. Something that's digging this deep into the system needs to be rock solid.

So I'll wait, albeit with baited breath...

Keep up the good work, devs...

(My primary use, BTW, for DT is in conjunction with a NAS device as a poor man's disc changer...)

                            Cheers!

With all your respect. Even if D-Tools v4/Pro wont come this month its not a such big deal is it? Why complain on it if you havent bought a version? It is free you know! Let them work I am sure they know what they are doing.
I also want a new D-Tools but as I have been in an orginsation that developed anti-cheat I know how people whines about "New version NOW!!!!!" even though its a free software. Just take it easy and it will be done.

The problem stems from the fact that some people have absolutely nothing better to do then to hound developers to show off their (albeit limited) logical skills and at the same time they refuse to apply an sort of Critical Thinking skills.

I usually refer to such people as Script kiddies, b/c their manner is that of a child, screaming at Mommy "I WANT I WANT I WANT I WANT!"

Only, in this case, the developers are neither the mommy nor the mother figure, and refuse to cater to the brats. If there was not a problem being fixed / tweaked, don't you think it would have been released already?

And how many of you are missing the biggest point of all? Nowhere does it specifically state that the software ***WILL*** be released in October - it is *planned* to be released in set time period, but as Robert Brown wrote, The best laid plans o' mice and men oft gang agley (often go awry). No matter what, you have to take into account that there may be an unexpected setback, there may be a unaccounted for bug, etc that needs to be fixed prior to fully releasing the Software.

Or, would you rather have the DT team follow the principles of M$, and release code early only to find out things are still broken? I am sure that would make all of you happy - so much so, in fact, that you'd be right back here flooding this forum with "OMFG your stupipd my mahcine is broken i cat boot what have you done why did you ever relase this poc software when it was not ready????" (please note the typos and grammatical errors were intentional, as I find that to be a typical comprehension / skill level of most of the idiots who act like they're 10 years old on the Net in the first place).

So, get a clue, go out and let Daddy buy you a new toy and play with that for a couple of weeks - and maybe you'll be happy to find that all of a sudden it has been released.
