Star wars battlefront ii runs but not for long

okay i notice everyone is running around this rat race of not even being able to get it to run.
I've seen a few people say they can get it to run but only for a little while then the game will crash and you will be on your desktop like you weren't playing at all.
But no one has seemed to answer the quuestion of why it is doing it or how to fix it.
Can someone answer that question ONLY please, thanks

Does it work if you use the original CD/DVD?

I have not tried it all i have is the mds and mdf file
