  • BSOD not v4.0

operating system: windows 2000 (SP4? the last one anyway)
Daemon tools: not sure, ahem, not v4.0, not ancient either...

sorry for the imprecisions, I'm kind of stuck with a BSOD...

Since I woke up this morning I get a Blue Screen Of Death:
    INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
    0x00000078
    (0x89075390, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000,0x00000000)

I believe it is related to daemon tools in some way since when I try to boot in safe mode it fails on d347bus.sys (if I don't press ESC to skip it, if I do I'm back to the aforementioned BSOD)

I'd appreciate any suggestion on how to proceed from here...

Boot with your Windows cd into recovery console, log on to your Windows installation (requires administrator password) and run chkdsk /r.
    Also check MS knowledge base:

      INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE from my experience means

      1) Corrupted OS
      2) Corrupted MFT/FAT
      3) Failing HDD

Hopefully it's just 1 or 2 as those should be fixable with either a chkdsk as Copytrooper suggested, or a repair install. However, I'm more inclined to suggest 3 as that's more often than not what it turns out to be. If you don't mind spending $20, Ontrack.com sells a program called Data Advisor that runs from a floppy and does a thorough scan of your HDD for errors. It takes several hours to run (especially if it's a large drive), but will almost certainly tell you if your drive is failing or not.
