  • D-Tools 3.47 errors during installation

I am unable to install Daemon Tools 3.47. Each time I try, it almost finishes and then gives me this error.

    I'm on Windows 2000 Pro SP4.

I've had both 3.47 and 4.0.3 X86 installed on here but both are uninstalled.

Not sure what the problem is but I believe it has to do with 4.0.3 X86 having been on here.

Please reply to this or message me on any of my messengers.

    Thanks!!

If you had v4.03 installed, you've to remove SPTD layer first. Download sptdinst_x86.exe (in our download section) and execute from a command line (e.g. DOS box) sptdinst_x86 remove. Then reboot to complete removal.
Any particular reason why you didn't continue to use v4.03?

It gave me errors when I tried to use it. I can't remember them off the top of my head though. If you like I can do thaht SPTD removal and then reinstall 4.03 and see if I can recreate the error.

It seems SPTD layer is still installed, thus no need to remove it - just re-install v4.03 and check.

Please check system event log (run eventvwr.msc) for error messages regarding SPTD layer and DTSCSI. Post the complete error message incl. all binary bytes.

Found nothing in Event Viewer that pertains to SPTD or DTSCSI

Did you really check the system event log? There are three different logs in event viewer, applications, security and system - just to be sure, so we don't miss anything.

Yes I checked all three sections. Then I exported them to tab delimited lists and searched through the txt in notepad and still found neither of those.

You can actually search in event viewer itself.
Select Search in menu, then in the first pull down menu in search dialog select sptd from the list, then press the search button.

Btw what do you see in device manager? Any devices with yellow exclamation marks? SCSI controller present, virtual devices in CD-ROM section? Any errors?

OK, double checked event viewer, nothing.

Seems there is a problem with the registry permissions on your system then.
Run regedt32 and check the permissions of the following registry hive (the whole hive!):
                          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum
Check in Security menu -> Permissions - System must have full access.

'SYSTEM' had Full Access.. 'Everyone' only had Read access.. so I gave 'Everyone' full access. Going to reboot, reinstall Daemon Tools and try again.

Hm, actually it's ok that "Everyone" has read-only access.
Did you check the whole ENUM hive, i.e. all hives in ENUM hive, too?
