  • Problem mounting drive

Ok so I just downloaded Daemon tools after a long time. I'm trying to mount a cd I downloaded (don't worry it's open source! perfectly legal) and I get this message:

    ---------------------------
    System Error
    ---------------------------
The Win16 Subsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode, DOSX.EXE must be in your AUTOEXEC.NT and present in your PATH.
    ---------------------------
    Close
    ---------------------------

I noticed that the drive that Daemon is mounting the CD to is E. I don't have an E drive. I have only one cd drive (actually it's a DVDRW drive), and that's D but for some reason Daemon won't let me choose it as the drive I'm mounting to. Does it "invent" drives when mounting or do you have to mount it to an actual drive. I'm pretty new to this whole cd image thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The "E" drive is the virtual drive created by Daemon Tools. You cannot mount an image to a physical drive. That simply isn't possible. Physical drives require a physical CD or DVD. Virtual drives allow you to mount an image file.
