SPTD Won't Install - Error 5

i have no copies of it on my machine

i can't install any version of daemon OR alcohol

latest daemon says it can't write to my registry so, it fails

then, the older version of daemon complains that a newer version is installed so, it fails - but, i can't find it

then, alcohol says what SPTD says - error #5


i've used daemon in the past and it was the tightest program - NO PROBLEMS

what happened?

how do i get that 'newer' version off my computer so, i can try to install the older one?
