  • Crisis with SPTD

I installed Daemon Tools on Windows Vista about two weeks ago... but every time I turn the computer I get an error message telling me SPTD 1.4.3. or newer is required..

To fix this I tried uninstalling Daemon Tools but it simply wont allow me to, so I keep getting this error without being able even to uninstall Daemon Tools

I then tried to install Daemon Tools again and after the quote asking to reset, I do and I get the SPTD error message, I double click the instalation file again and it installs SPTD again and asks to reset, after reseting about 12 times I got tired of going round on this loop....

Can anyonee give me any advice?

    Thanks in advance

Did you take a look at thread about "You must reboot after previous operation" in common problems and solutions forum?

Your registry settings are simply corrupted. This typically happens during OS upgrade.
I think you need try clean sptd key in services first. Then reinstall SPTD.

Ok, so I delete the service and then I re-install DT?

I believe he meant to fire up RegEdit and delete the key under 'HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/sptd' ... if it's still there under Vista, that is.

Ok, Iґve deleted it, but I couldn't delete "Cfg" as it wouldn't let me.

SPTD blocks access to this while it's running... which means it IS running? tried to reinstall yet?

First you've to disable SPTD and reboot, after reboot you've to enable all permissions of cfg key - then you can delete the entire sptd key in Services hive.
