  • Install hangs on "updating virtual drives"

Both deamon tools ans sptd installer detects sptd driver 1.81 but every time if I install DAEMON Tools (Lite 4.45.4) it hangs when updating drives. Seems that pc still works then but no program can be started anymore. Already running programs stay working fine atm.

I am not able to shut down pc (normally) when this happens and have to use reset to get out off the situation. In safe modus I can unistall daemon tools perfectly (did not try to install it there and would not do it unless it would be adviced here).

Already unistalled antivir (norman) and tried to in stall deamon tools then but it gives same results. SPTD has been istalled now by the stand-alone installer and is detected perfectly by both (like already mentioned).

Not sure how to proceed now. Any help would be nice.

    os: win7 SP1 64 bit
    win firewall is on
antivir: norman version 9 (is set to ask me if anything would be blocked)

Please try this Microsoft FixIt solution, reboot
Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media

Also please attach/upload a zipped Autoruns arn file (no installation required).
I'm not employed by Disc Soft and my views do not necessarily reflect the ones of the company.

Tried this but none off the problems there described are correct. Physical drives are working perfectly (read and write -dvd and bluray). So I don't know what to do here.

Don't have a (free) zip program so I used dropbox. You can find the file with the following link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/75749065/AutoRuns.arn.
REMARK: deamontools is unstalled at the moment because if installed, pc can't be used anymore like before. So it will not be found here.

      Hope this helps.

Windows handles virtual & physical drives the same way, so feel free to continue that FixIt.
Additionally, please download this tool: http://www.bustrace.com/downloads/devfilter.exe
Run it, highlight your optical drive on the left, then highlight upper/lower filters on the right.
Which filters are installed on your system ?

Maybe it's also worth a try to temporarily disable all non-Microsoft services to narrow down a possible conflict.

Tried but nothing was found. The only thing I can give as problem is that virtual drive is not found but as deamon tools is not installed, situation is quiet normal then. But I can't do a complete install (install prog never ends, hangs while updating) and there is nothing that can be done with the pc on the moment that install hangs. Is it worth to do this in safe mode after a (bad) installation and reboot by reset button?

Please uninstall/remove the GEAR drivers and check whether that solves the problem.
Make sure with the devfilter.exe that the GEAR driver was properly removed.
If it wasn't, please use ImgBurn's Filter Driver Load Order tool to remove it.

If you need them again (e.g. for iTunes) you can find them here:
              Driver updates - GEAR Software

I have a Ipod and so also have Itunes installed. Could that be the problem?

It's a general and old issue that filter drivers and their order can cause weird things
                  - whereas the GEAR ones aren't problematic per se; there are worse candidates.

For example have a look here: http://forum.daemon-tools.cc/f19/dri...-instal-28974/

This seems to be the only thing not tried yet. So when install did hang again afther deleting that gear driver I disabled all services and startup progs and rebooted pc.
Then I first unistalled DTlitle and again rebooted pc.
Also sptd was unistalled and reinstalled (with needed reboots) and checked with installer if that was ok.
afther a other reboot (still with only microsoft services activated) I installed DTlitle with SUCCES!!!!
Then came the long search for the damm confict prog (with every time reboting, don't know how much I rebooted) but finally every services and start up prog was started and not 1 time did dtlitle have a problem to mount a iso.

So I still don't know what the real problem was or where the conflict was but DTlitle is installed and working.
I want to thank yot, Terramex for all the tips and patience. Whithout you I would have given up on DT and that would be a shame.

Any Idea what could I been the conflict?
