  • Daemon Tools causes crash when inserting a neew CD

    Hi there,

My system randomly reboots when I place a CD in any of the drives. In troubleshooting this I removed both Daemon Tools and Alcohol. The system works fine. If I reinstall either of them then I get a crash 70% of the time on inserting a new CD.

Has anyone seen this one before?

    Any help appreciated,

    Regards,

    Steve

Check if you've minidump (in Windows\Minidump folder) related to such BSOD/crash, if so send newest file to support@daemon-tools.cc with reference to this thread.

      Hi there,

I went home and crashed my Pc especially for you! However it unfortunatley does not save a minidump. You place in a new CD, it reads the initial bit, pauses and then jsut resets the Pc when it reads the next bit. THis happs every so often on the CD drives, but every time I put in a rev disc.

      All help appreciated.

      Cheers,

      Steve

Right click on My Computer and go to properties.
        Click Advanced tab.
Under Startup and Recovery click Settings
Check "Write an event to system log"

Now the fun part of crashing your PC again.
You should now have a minidump file your systemroot/minidump directory

The required setting is in the debug informations -> small memory dump (64kB).
And while you're there disable the idiotic "Automatically reboot" option, so you gonna see the BSOD incl. its message in the future.

              Ho hum

Right after turning off the auto-reboot and also placing a swap file back on my C drive I got a blue screen (I can;t actually believe I am happy at this event!!! Got to be a first).

              IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL

Now if my memory serves me correctly thats a drive issue? However I still do not have a minidump even though the option is enabled:

              System Specs:

              AMD 3000+ 64 Bit
              Asus K8V-SE Deluxe BIOS 1007
              3 x 512MB Corsair CAS 2.5 PC3200
              1 x NEC 3540 DVD-RW
              1 x Samsung 619Q DVDROM
              1 x Liteon CDRW
              2 x 250GB SATA
              2 x 160GB IDE
              Radeon 9800 Pro
Creative Labs SB Audigy2 Platinum Pro
Windows XP Pro, SP2, All patches.

              Cheers,

              Steve

                ...

Does this happen only when DAEMON Tools is installed?

Where are the images located? On your IDE or SATA drives?

Ok, the dump you sent shows not Daemon Tools causes the crash, but the bad old dvd43llh.sys. Remove the software that installed it, then try again.

The images are on both IDE and SATA. The system reboots mainly when I place a CDROM in or a REV disc, pretty much every time.

I finally got a minidump which i sent to the support e-mail last night.

                        Cheers again for the help,

                        Steve

Uhm, the result of the minidump analysis is posted right above your post.

Doh! I hadn't spotted the second page

Nice one on the reply, its fixed the machine and all is well.

What software do you use for analysing the dump? Is it the tool that comes with XP Support Tools and if so how do you know which of the listed system files is the culprit?

                            Cheers,

                            Steve

Google for MS Debug Tools. The tool is called windbg.
