MDS/MDF file crash problem

I don't know if anyone else has this problem but MDS/MDF files crash any program I try to open them with. For example, in the windows explorer, when I navigate to a folder that contains and MDS/MDF file, as soon as I go into the folder I get the standard message "this program has encountered a problem and needs to close," then windows explorer closes and I have to start it again. If I try to open them in Alcohol, Nero, Damon Tools....or anything else, they crash the program. It's as though my system is unable to deal with these file types. Anyone have any thoughts?

This does not occur on anyone elses computer so I assume it is a rare problem because I have never heard anyone else mention this issue. But damn is it frustrating.

Maybe your Harddisk has some errors.
Boot with your Windows cd into recovery console and run chkdsk /r.
