  • DAEMON Tools 4 on Vista build 5270

    Hello,

I am trying to install Daemon Tools 4.03 on Vista Build 5270 on x86 system.

When I run DT setup, I get the SPTD install screen, I click NEXT to install it, then OK when it asks for a reboot.

After rebooting, the setup begins and ask again for installing SPDT. And it loops like this every times I reboot.

The only error message I get is in the event viewer :

    Code:
    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Date: 1/28/2006 8:38:03 PM

    Description:

    sptd
    Wanarp
The sptd.sys file is present in Windows\System32\Drivers

In the registry, I get the following keys and values:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sptd]

Note : Default permissions on Cfg key allowed me to list but not export nor change the data. So I replaced the Cfg permissions with the parent's one.

I have also de-activated Kernel debugger in BCDEDIT with the following command:
    Code:
    bcdedit /debug {current} off
    Result of bcdedit :

I tried the standalone installer sptdinst.exe but without success!

Any clue on this problem ?

    TIA,

    ...

DAEMON Tools 4 will support Vista when it comes closer to the release date and a final build that doesn't change every couple of weeks. But in regards to any tweaks to make it work right now- I think there are none.

Ok thank you for your reply. But you should remove the reference to Vista in the Download page

THIS VERSION SUPPORTS 32BIT OS (Windows XP, Windows2003, Windows 2000, VISTA)
It is sad none of the virtual cd tool works under Vista.

Beta 2 should be in april,
RTM is planned for end of this summer: August/September

I am not using it on a day to day use so it is difficult for me to say. I have to spend much time on it to have a fair opinion.

The code changes breaks a lot of apps with drivers/hooks like Antivirus (Kaspersky and others not working) / Firewall / or my favorite CD emulation tool. WPA (Wifi encryption) is hard to find... Also I've experienced some missing drivers problem.

But IMHO, there is a lot of good and usefull changes in Vista for enterprises and is very promising.

I still running my home PC with XP, waiting for more drivers and software supporting Vista.

            windows vista is nice
im trialing it atm as a full time OS

alot of tools, programs dont work/wont run due to scripting etc as stated above
but overal its really nice, interface is quite sexy compared to XP

when its fully released ill definately be going to windows vista

on another note, DTools wont install, it gets caught in a system reboot loop ;s

anyone had this problem ? know how to fix it ?
