  • Sata Ii

Theres some smart guys in this forum so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me. I've got a PCI SATA (1) controller, will this work with a SATA II hard drive?

I got the controller before SATA II and now all the larger Hard Drives are SATA II, was just wondering if I needed to buy a SATA II controller card or if my old one would work

    Thanks in advance

i think that sata II is backward compatible with sata I, but it may depend on the drives.

      Definitely possible.
Only your controller might become a bottle-neck(not for the speed, but maybe some features), but if you don't mind... no problem.

You could also check http://www.serialata.org/ (official site)
There you can see that there actually is no such thing as 'a SATA II HD'.
SATA II was in fact the name of the group that creates the standards, now it's being misused by marketeers, which makes the whole thing quite confusing.
SATA II is used when a HD contains at least 1 (1!) of the features of the new standard.

Anyway, just see the site if you're interested, it might clear things up
