problem with router and dsl

I've always configured wireless routers for friends with cable modems, but never with DSL. My problem is that the modem doesn't seem to be connecting while it's connected to the router. It works fine when not connected directly to the computer, but doesn't work when I plug it into the router. The router is a linksys wrt54gs.

To be more specific, I type in the username in password on the computer, but it won't make the modem dial up. Any ideas?

You probably need to enter the username and password into the router itself and it wouldn't hurt to clone the MAC address of the computer that works when plugged directly into the DSL modem.
