  • Diablo 1

    Hi,

I am completely new to this so please bear with me and my newbie questions. I was directed to this software to solve a problem we have encountered with our Diablo game.

First I want to say we recently purchased the Diablo box set, so we have fully paid for and own this software. My wife and I are both playing Diablo 1, her on her Mac laptop and myself on my PC. We have run into a problem that I have never encountered before, we need to keep the cd in the drive spinning away the whole time we play the game. So we cannot both play the game at the same time, and she can't take the game and play it on her 2 hour commute to work if I want to play it at home.

Also, all the games I have played before allow you to take the cd out once it has been checked to make sure you own it, examples of these games are Civ 2 and Civ3, MOO2, HOMM4. I also don't like the idea of my cd drive just spinning away, I don't want to burn it out.

So, I need a way to fool the game into thinking the cd is in the drive, is this possible? Is this also possible to do on her Mac laptop with this software? Also is it possible to make an exact copy of the game so my wife can take it with her on her commute if she can't set up a way on her Mac to avoid having her drive spinning all the time?

I have downloaded the program but really don't get it at all what I need to do. If someone could explain the basics, and what additional software I may need, if any, it would be much appreciated. If you could point to me to any FAQ's for absolute beginners that would be great too.

Finally, I have one other question a little similar, but possibly not what this software does. Is there a way to copy dvd's that we own. Our kids are hard on their dvds and we keep having to replace their movies as the dvds get scratched and won't play. We used to be able to record copies of them to play with when they were on vhs, and make anew copy from the master tape once they ruined them. However now that we have got rid of all the vcr's we are finding that we are spending a fair bit of money replacing dvds for them instead if enlarging their movie library. I would think since we already own these items we shouuld be able to back them up.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers, Mark

you can just burn a copy of it. i made a copy of my cd it has no protection. the reason you need the cd in at all times is because the install of the game is about 4mb or something and the cd is like 600mb. the whole game runs off the cd. heh i remember running it on my 486, the cd rom drive didnt work properly and it kept revving like hell. after 2 hours play the cd was so hot lol

      Hi,

We did try making a copy of the cd but it didn't work, it kept saying that a file was missing. The file missing was called diabdat.mpq even though the file was actually present on the cd we made. We actually made 2 cds and neither works.

Do we need to make a copy in a special way?

I would still pefer to find a way that isn't spinning the cd drive. Please let me know if that is possible.

I know that we could have bought the game via download from blizzard, and I guess now we should have, as it wouldn't have come with a cd, so it would have avoided this problem. However, that must mean it can run without a cd.

      Cheers, Mark

how did you create the image? for diablo a tool like nero should do, but for newer stuff you should use advanced copy software like alcohol 120%.

          Hi,

We just put the cd of the game in the drive, selected copy, and then put a blank cd in the drive. We didn't use any special programs or anything like that.

I will look for the Nero you speak of.

          Cheers, Mark

you can't copy most of the games like that with the utilities that windows itself
            offers.

Please download the trial-version of Alcohol 120% / download at http://www.alcohol-soft.com

find out which protection diablo use and create your image - after that you
can mount that image into daemon tools or Alcohol-drives. However,
Alcohol120% isn't freeware and the trial-period ends after 30 days.

Two options then: to buy the fullversion of Alcohol or to use the Daemon Tools
drives. However, if you frequently use Alcohol, you should buy it (or buy
Daemon Tools, as the next version support image-creation, too)

              Hi,

I downloaded and tried Nero, but the process just kept failing. It said the cd was copyrighted, then it would start to burn, then it would state the burn failed.

I will now try the Alcohol120.

                Hi,

Ok downloaded alcohol 120 but it didn't install properly, something about a device driver not installed.

Also, I need to now find a datatype detection software as I have no ideas what datatype this cd uses. Any ideas on which dectection software to download?

                Cheers, Mark

                    you could also try clonyxxl
Download ClonyXXL 2.0.1.5 - Find out the kind of protection that is used on a disc

you need clonecd as well though. clonyxxl is meant to find what protection the cd has and apply the right burn settings to clonecd. some people say it works. i havnt really had any luck

ClonyXXL is extremely old and can detect no new protection correctly.
Is is really not a good choice for detecting protections.

Mostly because Diablo 1 has no protection.

yea thats what i thought and said earlier but he said when he burnt a copy it didnt work. then you said "Copy Protection Detection Software.
www.aray-software.com" so if diablo one has cd copy protection of some sort clonyxxl would work. if you knew diablo 1 has no protection whyd you bring that up?

                              HI,

Ok I tried Aray and it states that the cd has no protection. However I still cannot burn a copy of it that works. So where do I go from here?

                              Your help is much appreciated.
