    I don't know if DVD's can have subchannel data but I guess you're right about Alcohol not offering it. Older CD-ROM drives (ex. Philips) would not create the highest quality read if you had read subchannel data enabled. I haven't seen a case where (if all the data is read properly) having "too much" correct information for the disc would make the image file worse off for mounting/emulation.

      I think real reason DVD's don't support raw data writing is so that people couldn't copy their dvd-videos with all css codes, but might be mistaken.
