No virtual drives allowed in my Vista x64!!!

I have the RTM (build 6000) of Windows Vista x64. I just can't figure it out to have virtual drives. I tried with several programs with this porpuose (yes, the one everybody is thinking, which name has a lot to do with the wine, the wisky and the beer, ) and others with no luck. But this is a DTools post, so I will respect the rules. It installs with no problems, it asks to restart and when I do it, it continues installing OK, it finishes, and when I try to mount an image, I click on its icon, and when I point to Virtual Drives I get "Device 0 [ ]: No media", when as you all know, between the [] it should appear the virtual drive letter. If I go to Device Parameters, I try to assign a letter, and I get the message "Unable to assign letter to this drive". For more data, it didn't bring me problems with my DVD recorder or my CD reader, I'm using the 4.08HE version (x64 OBVIUSLY), and I have a 80 Gb ATA (IDE) HDD drive. The images I want to mount, if it's is useful for something, are located in DVDs.

Well, I know for a fact that Alcohol works in Vista since RC2 build 5744, and DTools should have no problems either. You have to run it the first time as Administrator, though. Either by logging into the Administrator account, or by right-clicking and choosing "Run as" Administrator.

Mmmm, I tried it, but with no results. I'm the Administrator and I tried also right button clicking and Running as administrator but nothing. I will try with the SPD 1.40 beta, maybe it works, I'll let you know. All ideas are completely welcomed.

If you see the virtual device, but just no drive letter, there seems to be a problem with the installed drivers (check in device manager). Maybe cdrom.inf is corrupted or missing, thus the drivers were not installed.

x86 or x64.

The same happened to me until I unticked Secure mode in Options from the DT systray icon. Then a drive letter for my virtual device showed up.

This is 4.08HE x64 on Vista Business x64.

First: I didn't understand what Jokeman meant with his post Windows Vista "x64"? .

Second: Before I get to try that thing about the SecureROM option I accidentally realized the main cause of the problem. As I said I have the Ultimate edition, and I have it cracked with the replacing of files tokens.dat and pkeyconfig method that is walking around the network. So, as I set Windows to download the updates automatically, it downloaded the Windows Geniune Advantage Tool, and just like XP, it detected the O.S. is a pirate copy and it disabled Aero. So I had no options but re-formatting and re-installing. But this time I started installing my programs (thing that everybody always do after formatting) but I didn't applied the crack yet. Guess what, it worked perfect. So, evidently the crack locks (or does something with) the installation of unsigned drivers, since the driver for the virtual drive that Daemon uses is unsigned. Before all this I had had to re-formatting because of the same reason (the WGA tool) and when I connected the digital camera to downloading my pictures it didn't take the driver, when I had had already used it with the RC1 (also x64)and it worked perfectly. This time I connected it without applying the crack and also worked OK. To keep in mind.

I solved the same problem on Vista business X86.
