Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP2 + All Latest Updates
Burning Software: Alcohol 120% 1.9.5.3105, Tried versions as old as 1.4.x as well.
Anti-virus Software: Norton Antivirus 2005 + All latest updates
DAEMON Tools Version: 3.47
Okay, after spending the entire day on it, I think I need some real help.
After a clean reformat, installing all latest drivers, updates, Roxio Media Creator 7.5, installed Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools.
Using Alcohol I rip 5 CDs as a bin/cue (also tried alcohol mdf extensions). I use Alcohol's virtual CD-ROM and mount the images. I know this has nothing to do with Daemon tools at the moment but read on.
I run the setup program on the virtual cd and go through the install. At random instances (I tried a few times) it will say: "serious error: cannot read file....from media" and the setup program bombs out. I go to My Computer, double click my mounted dirve and the icon changes from the program icon to the default CDROM icon and it says "insert disk into drive E:" When I go to try to mount anything else I get a "could not be opened by miniport in kernel mode".
So then I go to do something else, run mozilla for example. Then I get an error "this is not a valid win32 application". I'm like ummm wtf mate. Then I go to start menu and all my icons are missing or black shadows. More problems! I try to run task manager and it says "insufficient system resources to run this application" and basically my computer is unusable and I need to restart. Keep in my I got 1 Gig dual channel ram. I am not running anything else other than Alcohol.
What does this have to do with Daemon Tools? Easy. I got pissed off with Alcohol 120%, uninstalled it, made sure its virtual cd drivers were gone, then I installed Daemon Tools. I tried everything I mentioned up above and..... EXACTLY the same steps. It doesn't matter which files I use, eventually everything goes FUBAR and leaves me to reset my computer. I get no problems with my system whatsoever if I don't load anything into a virtual CD.
I've tried uninstalling rebooting reinstalling various versions of alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools. I tried using different virtual CD driver names (instead of the default ones). I suspect that the Alcohol 120% virtual CD drivers are basically the same ones as the Daemon Tools (the naming convention being the same gave me the clue)
Note: I get no physical crash/BSOD. Just eratic system performance.
Any clues? I'm really stumped. I'd really like to get both working. Since the problem is identical on both I figured someone must know what's going on.
Thanks a lot!
