Operating System: Win XP SP2 + all Pre SP3 patches
    Burning Software: Nero 7
    Anti-virus Software: NOD 32
    DAEMON Tools Version: 3.47

I noticed something above that is making me wonder about something else: You mentioned the errors are with the Virtual Drives, and buried in your original post was the error

Just a shot in left field, here, but is your mobo a VIA North/South bridge based board? If so, did you install the miniport drivers from Viaarena.com?

Again, *if you did*: you're SOL - sort of. I had similar experiences with the mini port driver(s) and after research found out that they are *only* needed for the NT OS - not *NT-based* OSs, mind you, Just NT itself. So, 2K / XP / 2K3 ***don't*** need that driver, and once you install it there is no real reliable way to get rid of it - it causes similar functionality breakdown as NetSoerfer described Roxio doing.

If you did: Do reformat, install *everything* except that one driver - and see how it goes.

(For all you who say you've never heard of mobos for Intel P4 CPUs with the VIA Chipsets - Tyan, amongst others, manufacture exactly those.)

Of course, if you did not install the miniport driver, then disregard this post.

@Underheaven and NetSoerfer - I realize you want the tests performed without Roxio installed, and perhaps that is a good thing too, but I sincerely think it is the miniport in this case - hence my suggestion to install everything else (including the Roxio) without the miniport drivers and see if it made a difference. If you think he should leave out both the Roxio as well as the miniport driver, I'll yield.

Also, last I checked, Nero's InCD only worked with CDRWs, whereas DirectCD (or its equivalent, whatever they are calling it now) works with both CDRW as well as CDRs.

      Mobo

I have an ASUS P4P800. Before I install windows I installed the SATA RAID drivers provided by the ASUS website. I do not need to install any other drivers if I install Windows XP SP2 (they're all included).

I think I will try to uninstall Roxio and let you know if this does anything. If it is the case, I will probably install Nero and try it out.

      I'll keep you posted.

        Welp....

Seeing as that is an Intel Chipset - based Mobo most of my diatribe is useless

Roxio is a piece of dog$4|

Well guys, I uninstalled Roxio Media Creator 7.5, rebooted, re-created my virtual drive, and voila- everything works fine

Somehow that is not surprising - since back in the day on v 3.x or 5.x (whichever was out when XP first came around) it has been the bane of many a burners' existence.

            Glad ya got it working.
